It is an air to water aftercooler. Its the "A" part of 8V92TA. Its under the blower and cools the air charge before it goes into the cylinders. There are intercooled 8V92s, (called 8V92TI) but I think they are mostly marine (water) applications.
Yeah, two batteries will work fine.
When you're looking at the 4 batteries in the HET, the 2 negative terminals on the right side of both of the right 2 batteries are the ground. The 2 positive terminals on the left side of the left 2 batteries are the 24v positive. The remaining 4 posts in...
The transfer case oil pump is on the back of the transfer case near the top. Below that is the auxiliary power steering pump. If you're loosing oil there, check your power steering reservoir level.
Low power steering fluid level is hard to hear as a whining pump sounds like the blower on the...
I don't have any answers for you other than that the answers to your questions will be specific to your state. What works in California, Maine, and Florida will likely be different than what will work in Oregon.
I have 12 total HET manuals -
TM 9-2320-360-10 Operator's Manual (MAR 2010)
LO 9-2320-360-12 Lubrication Order (MAY 2007)

Here is the BII that I have with my HET -
2x 12 Ton bottle jacks
20' Slave cable
Slave cable 2-to-1 pin adapter
12v Work light
Work light power cord
All of this fits nicely in the forward toolbox underneath the driver's side door.
2x 50' 3/8" air hose
3/4" Drive air impact gun...
Some of the wheel/lug nut related data I've come up with recently -
The M1070 uses hub piloted wheels.
The lug nuts are M22x1.5 metric and have P/N 88881 and NSN 5310-01-349-0755
The nuts that hold the CTIS cover on are M22x1.5 metric and have P/N 1842280 and NSN 5310-01-348-8317
The nuts that...
Anybody know what the thimble/budd nuts are for that are on the spare tire around the CTIS valve? The TM points them out, but does not seem to indicate their function. Maybe to protect the CTIS valve?
The BII for the truck is supposed to include a 10" 3/4" x 7/8" open end wrench and a 7.5" 12pt offset angle flare nut tube wrench.
The open end wrench NSN is 5120-01-373-8833 which comes back as Moore CC and Co Engineers P/N BW-731A
Flare nut wrench is 5120-01-387-0055 which comes back as...
The M916/M920 hydraulic tank sight glasses are what amounts to flush pipe plugs with windows in them.
Something like this - http://www.jwwinco.com/products/section12/gn743.7/
I believe the 1070 uses 3/4" or 7/8" NPT thread there.
I don't have anything to add yet, but I do have a question.
The 1070 LO calls for 15w40 engine oil, but I've seen and heard many people say that 2 stroke Detroits should only be run on straight 40 weight oil. In the maybe several thousand miles I may put on this truck, am I going to see a...
