I agree with this. There are at least two variants of the brush guards as well - the square tubing type and the round cylinder type. I do not know if one is early and one is late model or what the difference is. It seems like the round type is less common. I also think the square tubing one...

As far as I know, another difference is the oil cooler. The BC3 has the two oil filters and the BC1 only has one on it.

I saw a picture yesterday on here looking for CPL info, but I can't find it now, of course. :shrugs: Its just an ashtray that sits below the window crank on each door. I think perhaps they were mostly eliminated during rebuilds of these trucks. I've definitely seen more trucks without them...

Was your truck manufactured in 1979? I think I have seen more without the ashtrays than with.

I don't have any photos, but some of the M915 series trucks have ashtrays on the door below the window crank. I think its an early thing, but they may have all come with them and then lost them over time.

And no steps hanging below the bumper, front mudflaps, or transmission cooler in front of the radiator.

I always figured this photo was an early or prototype M920 - it does not the air dryer in front of the fuel tank, or the transfer case cooler below the winch platform. It doesn't look like it has the expanded metal platforms in front of the 5th wheel, and the 5th wheel spacer, ramps, and roller...

I like the MTVR towbar. Probably mostly because it will work with almost any vehicle and it stows in 4 pieces that are fairly small easy to carry, compared to the other towbars.

Okay, got it. Will there be enough room for the spare tire to lower correctly if you mount a box there? There is barely enough room as it is now...

The spare tire carrier only bolts to the winch mount, is that what you mean here?

Looks like it turned out nice. Can the crane stay mounted while you have a connex up there?

When I got my 916, the jake brake didn't work, and it turned out to be the throttle position switch being out of adjustment. The -20 TM has an excellent troubleshooting section regarding the engine retarder. It may help to look at the 915A1 TM also because you have the Big Cam III engine.

I can't answer the legal questions, but I added a few reflectors to the mudflaps and frame side near the rear. The mudflap mounted reflectors are just the regular armored deep dish reflectors that I drilled some holes for and used some fender washers to back them. You could also use some...

Its a little bit less, 3.6A vs the 3.9A of the stock 6015 lamp. I have noticed that almost all of the LEDs that I have replaced on my M916 have had nearly the same amp draw albeit a brighter output.

That does look like a 915/A1 plate. Also, the "unlock and return" part is important. It has to go back to the middle position to unlock.

    The 916 got the short end of the stick when it comes to listed GVWR and GCWR. Observe the following - Truck GVWR GCWR Curb Weight 5th Wheel Max Towed M915 55000 105000 19630 35370 85370 M916 56000 106000 27500 28500 78500 M920 75000 130000 30270 44730 99730 I think AM General came...

Long stroke chambers do have the square inlets and short strokes have the round ones. The difference between them is not the length of the threaded rod, but the amount the rod moves. Anytime you have a new chamber, you'll probably have to cut the rod down, they're made long to fit different...

Cummins P/N 3002074 Although when I went to buy it, the Cummins guy told me I'd be better off just getting some elbow barbs and silicone hose. It can't be a straight piece of hose, the compressor will suck it shut.

I think I will end up doing something like this - I think a 24v 100A alternator would power the truck with this setup, but I suspect that it would be better to get something in the 125A to 150A range. 200A works too, of course. I think the 12v load could be cut by a third or maybe even half...
