What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Oh. Good thing you found that. I had a pack rat chew on my starter wire. he died from the 24 volts but then the wire grounded to the frame. That ended up frying my alternators and a few fusible links until I found the grounded wire. Good luck. I'm glad you found the problem.

I had the same problem once. It ended up being a missing ground wire from the cab to frame. Good luck.

There us a guy local to me asking $550 for that model winch with 160' wire on it. Would that be a good deal?

Replaced the stock box fuel filter with a brand new stock box fuel filter. It was time. I think I'll replace the stock air filter too.

Fabbed up a pintle hitch for the 2 inch receiver on my M1028 wrecker. I hope it warms up a bit so I can paint it tomorrow.

Cucvrus I finally got to it. Thanks for all you post. Without your knowledge I would still be looking for the correct motor mount. Autozones computer gives you the wrong mount. As you have identified previously, tell them it's a 1983 truck with a 350 and you get the right one.

I began to replace my motor mounts today starting with the passenger side. I got it out by lifting the right side with a pry bar but that won't do the trick for installing the new one. And my wife is excellent at pointing out the obvious... "Why don't you use that cherry picker thingy you have...

Do you mean the bridging placard? Nice truck.

I think I'll go with the duralast and save a few bucks. I'm not as convinced with the energy suspension parts or the other polyurethane parts makers.

That's a beast. I like it. I had a milemarker 10,500K hydraulic winch mounted in much the same way. When I tore my truck down to rebuild it I found that I was tearing one of the bumper mounts. If I can find the pictures I will edit and add them here later. In my case because the axis of the...

I will once I fabricate it. I need to put the frame back together first and mount the engine so I know where to start. Or are you looking for pics of the ORD crossmember?

Looks good but the fuel pump may not clear that. I just replaced the lift pump on my 1028 today and they practically touch. I'm glad I'm fabbing a replacement crossmember for my 1008 to clear a HMMWV 6.5 TD... and anything else that may have been squeezed in there.

Very nice. I hope to finish painting my frame this week and start hanging parts as well. Why not get the ORD mounts and the crossover if your already investing in their gear. I know they fab some strong pieces. I'd go with their stuff and sometimes do when I can't fab it myself. Happy New Year.

Just completed installing a new lift pump. A PITA for sure but I was okay with everything until... pump installed and hard line tight... the hose fitting was touching the engine crossmember. A little massage and it was clear. The hose proved to be a real pain... it leaked after installation...

Pulled off the cheap $20 mufflers and installed the cheap $30 mufflers. What a difference... I can hear myself think again. Merry Christmas neighbors!

Reinstalled the airlift 5000 airbags with new lines on the tow truck just as I received it from the DLA auction. They held pressure overnight so all is well. Have a great weekend!

Thanks for the pat on the back. Unfortunately I haven't done any more work on mine. I hope to be back at it over the long weekend.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I broke the right rear leaf spring shackle last week. Just replaced both rear shackles with the ORD HD shackle. Pretty stout. It uses a 1 1/2 inch bushing vice the 1 3/8 bushing in the stock shackle. It is also 4 1/2 inches vs the 4 inch stock shackle.

Stopped by the parts store for some tranny fluid. While I was inside a bum smashed the front of my radiator. Don't know why. Had my wife bring me the radiator from my M1008 tgat was sitting in the garage. 3 hours later and I'm up and running again. No sign of the sheriff I called but they are...
