    MY Airpack Rebuild with Photos!

Nice! Don't worry, just about everyone tears the seal they just don't fit.

    MY Airpack Rebuild with Photos!

I was going to say wow that looks as in as bad a shape as mine was! Lol. I think you'll be OK if you painted it so long as you got down to bare metal. On another note I think I found the piece that's the culprit for most Airpack problems. See pics. Not sure what this piece is called but I...

    MY Airpack Rebuild with Photos!

No problem, glad it helped you out! My airpack is now venting air into the overflow tube or "slobber tube" in the engine compartment so I now have to take out and rebuild again. Oh well such is life with an old deuce, wouldn't change it for anything!

Blisters, i read your original post but now since it's deleted did you fix your problem?

    MY Airpack Rebuild with Photos!

I am humbled that my write up is in a file on the other side of the pond. It was my way of trying to give back a little to this site which I have learned and continue to learn so much from. Thanks!

    MY Airpack Rebuild with Photos!

If you take your time and clean and hone everything well you should be fine. Glad to hear it locked up at home. Mine did it on my recovery drive home.

    MY Airpack Rebuild with Photos!

Well, when I did the airpack I also had a soft pedal. I rebuilt the M/C and that took care of it. Not sure if that will work for you as well but I have seen/heard that if the Airpack is in bad shape then usually the M/C is too. Then just recently took off the hubs to inspect the brake...

    MY Airpack Rebuild with Photos!

It seems that weird brake problems are usually the Airpack. There are so many parts to it that I don't know what they all do, you just need to clean it all up as best you can and replace whatever is in the rebuild kit. Best of luck to ya!

    MY Airpack Rebuild with Photos!

Just catching up on my old thread, well old to me now. Glad to have posted and give back a little from my experience. Without this great website and community that I have grown to know over the past few years I probably would have never owned a deuce. Now I can't ever see myself without one...

    MY Airpack Rebuild with Photos!

I would hone down the cylinder and then smooth out that area as much as possible. Is that some grey RTV sealant on the end? I had to use that to seal up the end since the small gasket I had snapped before I could get it in place. So far it has worked out fine. I have used that stuff for my...

    MY Airpack Rebuild with Photos!

Wow, that does not look familiar at all. I am surprised it came out of there as it's a pretty good size. Not sure where that would go. Anyone else seen something like that??

    MY Airpack Rebuild with Photos!

RangerDave, sorry I missed your post earlier. I think since the air pack is like an air tank it just collects condensation. Also you could be getting moisture through your air lines from the air tanks as they collect moisture as well. I think since you said you don't use it much you probably...

    MY Airpack Rebuild with Photos!

All I can say is that I used all the pieces in the rebuild Kit. Do you have a pic of what's left over? That may help. I was in the middle of mine and had a few pieces left over until I took apart a few more things. They are a little hidden sometimes.

    MY Airpack Rebuild with Photos!

When I did the rebuild I used mainly Air tool Oil for lubrication and a some Dot 3 only because that's what was in the Deuce when I got it. I don't want to get into a Dot 3 vs. 5 discussion here there are plenty of threads on that but I plan on bleeding my brakes at least yearly and with Dot 3...

    MY Airpack Rebuild with Photos!

Yeah I had a problem with that too. It was just too tight and then SNAP! I used a make your own gasket sealer, seemed to work out great! Good luck!

    MY Airpack Rebuild with Photos!

Thanks guys, the original problem for me was my brakes were locking up. Not all the time but on my original recovery I heated them up pretty well. Then I also noticed fluid coming out of the "slobber tube" next to the engine so some fluid was getting past a seal somewhere internally. So I...

    MY Airpack Rebuild with Photos!

Wow that's weird, mine just pulled apart easily. Not sure how you can pull apart without damaging anything.. Sorry for the late reply, I have been traveling for work.. Perhaps give it a tap around the edges with a rubber mallet? Probably just some gunk in there holding it all together.

    MY Airpack Rebuild with Photos!

Scott, on mine the piston push rod had a slit at the top of it. I was able to hold that with a screwdriver and turn the nut and it came off. You could also put the pushrod (Not piston itself) in a vice with "soft jaws" as to not scratch the rod. If you don't have soft jaws I used in the past...

    MY Airpack Rebuild with Photos!

Good idea, thanks for that, I'll try re-bleeding first. The wheel drums are clean, no drips there..

    MY Airpack Rebuild with Photos!

Thanks Dwayne, I did do a full bleed, Actually just posted my new problem on a different thread as I wasn't getting too much on this one. I did have a small leak on the airpack which helped the pedal come back up quicker but as I hold down the pedal it sinks slowly to the floor. No visible...
