Acquired a Military surplus load bank

Yea, I had my eye on those too since I'm just around the corner from there. Feel so fortunate that I picked up a A427A a few years back. Paid more than I wanted but compared to today, it was a bargain.

The neutral from the generator is taped off and not connected when you are testing 240v single phase. You will connect one HOT from the generator to L1, L2, L3 (bridged) on the 427 and the remaining HOT will connect to L0 on the 427. Be sure to connect the ground between generator and load bank...

Acquired a Military surplus load bank

I would make sure it was in good working order. Cosmetics don't matter too much but I would avoid one that was full of rust and corosion. Dents and dings I can live with but if its rusty then I'd be more concerned.

Acquired a Military surplus load bank

You can find them from time to time. After several years of looking I finally scored one (an Essex A427A) from an auction site for about $1,800 including shipping costs. It’s like new inside. I’m happy with it but a couple of shop heaters can be had for a few hundred bucks and will do a good job...

Acquired a Military surplus load bank

I hope to be able to pick one up on the east coast when I'm done with the west coast project. It would be much more convenient than the water heater element setup.

Acquired a Military surplus load bank

If someone is able to make the connection between the seller and a shipping company I would like to get the other 2.

Acquired a Military surplus load bank

I'm on the west coast doing a project but here is no way I can get that carry-on approved. :(

Acquired a Military surplus load bank

I went the water heater element route for loading generators. It works great and is super affordable. It would be nice to add a variac to the mix to tweak the load. I know its a 1.0PF load but thats OK unless you are trying to test the trip on the breaker. I would LOVE to have a real load bank...

Acquired a Military surplus load bank

I've started my 1hp well pump and my 3ton HP on a MEP802. The well sends the meter up to just under 100% and it falls straight back down to the low end of the scale. The engine registers the load but its not more than a bump. When the HP starts it pegs the load meter a good bit longer and...
