    These engines don't have the issues with caviation that the PowerStroke engines do so the diesel specific coolants are not required. That said, I prefer a good quality sillicate free antifreeze to save wear and tear on the waterpump.

    You both are right. If the thermostat is stuck partially open it will run cold at light loads and overheat under heavy loads. Personally I would inspect the thermostat and rule it out as the problem before running the set more. But thats me. ;)
