Feeler: Turbo kit for the Diesels

I have a grill cover but havent put it on. It runs really cool without much of a load but once I put some strain on it the temp gets up to 180-185ish. I am going to try the grill cover this week.

Feeler: Turbo kit for the Diesels

I did a longer test on Friday by going out to Port Hueneme. Had it floored all the way there, coolant was about 130-140 ish, boost was about 5-7 lbs, rpm 2500, outside air about 55 and the charge air temperature was between 147-160 depending on when the governor would allow more fuel for the...

Feeler: Turbo kit for the Diesels

I thought it seemed low too. At idle it was about 75-80 degrees after it had been warmed up. It might make a difference in your calculations being that it is 478 CI and I was only at about 2200 rpm at 14lbs boost. Anyway it will give me a baseline for when I do some turbo/intercooler mods. I...

Feeler: Turbo kit for the Diesels

Ok just got back from a drive. Going up a hill in 4th gear 14 lbs of boost @ 1100 degrees EGT and coolant temp around 140 degrees, outside air about 58 gave a charge air temperature of 145 degrees. The highest I could get it was 160 degrees on flat land at full throttle in 5th gear, didnt look...

Feeler: Turbo kit for the Diesels

Hey Cranetruck, Have you ever measured the temperature of the charge air inside the intake manifold? I just put an extra Pyrometer probe in my intake manifold today and will have it hooked up to my MAC digital mutimeter. I used it before when my egt guage broke and it gave very precise readings...

Feeler: Turbo kit for the Diesels

Hey Doc, Do you think its a waste of time messing with the cat turbo? Do the Holset turbo's have the same size exhaust flange as the stock duece or is the same size as this Cat turbo I have? I'm kind of bummed to hear its not the performer I thought it would be. I dont want to waste time...

Feeler: Turbo kit for the Diesels

What is the flange size for the hx-35/ hx-40? I just bought a new turbo made for a cat 3126 that I am going to use for my turboproject and it looks like I have to make a flange adapter being that its 4 1/4" long by 2 3/4"wide (outside dimensions) which is smaller than the duece exhaust manifold...

Feeler: Turbo kit for the Diesels

I dont think blow off valves are needed on diesels as there is no throttle plate slamming shut blocking off the airflow from the turbo. They sound great on gassers though.
