Thanks Warthog! I wont mess with it then, that light still works! But I think Im going to run out and get a new alternator plug because mine looks kinda crispy. I just hope that short I had in wiring didnt fry the alternator when i tried to hook up the batteries.
Tore apart the dash again... checked every bulb. Ive never been so bummed to not find a bad bulb. I fixed the little light above the voltmeter, cleaned voltmeter studs, still have the gen 2 issue.
Found this behind the vacuum pump when I was replacing the vacuum hoses... not sure why its taped...
Cpf240,
That answered my next question. Just got home from the shop... gave me fuel hose instead of vacuum hose. Any difference other than it being less flexible than the vacuum tubing?
Doesn't come on at all... my last experience taking the dash apart didnt go so well. I'm not looking forward to it again :? But I think I need to at this point. I ressurected my restoration thread with a few things I found as well.I'm working on putting in the pictures.
A little lost on the multimeter thing, butI think I did it right... Anyways I'm going to the manufacturer's site to hopefully figure out how to use it properly. I should probably learn how to speed things up in the future and to know what I am doing.
I looked again and on the positive stud I...
Trying to get pics up, my phone isnt working propperly and the digital camera is MIA. The red and white wire is the only wire connected to the ground stud. The positive terminal has the orange wire, and red wire attached to it. the alternator plug is installed at the top with the little...
Ran into a problem reconnecting the batteries... I got the alternator mounted up and connected. I go to reconnect the batteries the same wayit says on the truck and the same way I have done in the past. Rear battery positive, front battery positive, rear battery negative, front battery negative...
I'm installing it now. I hope and pray thistakes care of the Gen 2 issue I have. I also noticed the hose leading to the CDR valve is loose and theres a good deal of old oil around the CDR valve. Hmmmm
rvnlrrp,
Check the fuse on the bottom of the fuse block labelled 28v should be 10 Amp I think. after that check the voltmeter relay and gen 2 relay (if the gen 2 light is still working while the glow plugs are warming up its probably good). Then start working your way through the rest of the...
Dwayne,
It should be here tomorrow so we shall see how it goes. Gen 1 is still original so I guess Ill have something to compare it to. There is also a 1 year warrantee apparently but lets hope it works amd I wont need it. Interesting about the axle though, does that mean I need to paint it or...
It was the only one with an isolated ground I could find that actually looked like my alternator as well http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008Y3PT7O/ref=asc_df_B008Y3PT7O2499227?smid=A3DQWNDT09WO3V&tag=sdcbing598-20&linkCode=asn&creative=395105&creativeASIN=B008Y3PT7O
I found it by typing in the 1105500...
Need to find a new gen 2 alternator.... Just cracked the one I got trying to get the bearing out.... I am not happy at all right now. But I just ordered one and I hope and pray it clears up my Gen2 issue when it finally gets here. I started poking around the transmission a bit, im still not sure...
Ordered the alternator rebuild kit. Will install promptly whenever it arrives.
Started cleaning the half dried oil clumps out of my engine compartment...I thinkit may have been leaking since '86 based on how much of that crud is stuck everywhere.
Looked at ordering a remanufactured alternator to replace my Gen2 so I can rebuild the original to keep as a spare. Part WIL90014277 if anyone has any experience.
Removing gen 2 alternator right now... Im not sure if I will tackle this rebuild or have someone else do it. The loose stud in the back is bad news and apparently if it touches the case a whole lot of sparks will fly and knowing my luck thatd turn into an engine fire. So on Warthogs advice Im...
Well... I couldve had this thing done long ago... Sawzall and the breaker bar had the old bolt out in 2 minutes... So I now have a tuff country steering stabilizer installed now. Soon onto the king pin rebuilds hoping I have a better clue about what I'm doing.
