    Possible fuel issue

I assumed the same and didn't look for an inline filter because it isn't in the TM. I should've known better because when I was training new techs at my last job, one of the rules I gave them was "never assume a system is unmodified and never trust the last guy's work". 😆

    Possible fuel issue

You guys, I think I found and fixed the issue and I feel really dumb about it. While crawling around under my truck today and looking for places to eventually mount my spin-on filter heads and electric pump I spotted a previously unnoticed inline fuel filter with a suspiciously...

    Possible fuel issue

I think that's worth exploring. It would be weird if the IP was only pulling air when hot though, right? I've run into air issues on small DI diesel engines that don't have a lift pump and rely on the IP to pull fuel all the way from the tank but when there's a leak, they run like crap all the...

    Possible fuel issue

I'll see if I can dig around for my multi tester. Headed out on a quick getaway this weekend so I'll likely report back in a few days.

So don't change out the thermal spring? Idle speed seems good when it's cold, hard to tell without a tach but it doesn't seem low or high.

    Possible fuel issue

They didn't have Diesel Mechanic in a Bottle in either store I went to but they did have Stanadyne injector cleaner. While not the same, I'm sure it'll help. Here's what I found under the cover: https://youtube.com/shorts/ufid4hk--q4?feature=share Forgot to mention, the fuel is still warm in...

Is this the plate you're referring to?

    Possible fuel issue

Ok, so I just drove from Charlestown to Weymouth, about an hour in 83 degree heat and stop and go traffic, driving a sick truck. What a miserable ride. Anyway, this is my report: the first 10 to 15 minutes were ok but then I noticed the RPMS starting to fall off when I let off the accelerator...

    Possible fuel issue

Went for a short ride earlier, probably about 20 minutes. No hesitation, no power loss, no stalling. I'm going to take it for a longer drive tonight and see what it does before I open up the IP.

    Possible fuel issue

Great information, thank you. I've been a mechanic of one kind or another for many years but only started learning about diesel engines in the last 5 years so all of this is really helpful for me. I snagged a complete turbo setup from a 6.5 today but before I even think about slapping that...

    Possible fuel issue

Excellent, thanks. As far as inspection goes, what am i looking for? I'm just guessing by the video but there shouldn't be any play? Do I check it hot or cold?

    Possible fuel issue

On the subject of collecting fuel parts: I'm looking for an adjustable fuel pressure regulator but most I've found are ridiculously priced or the adjustment range is too high for what I need. Any links?

    Possible fuel issue

Thank you for that. I just ordered one because at $35, even if it turns out not to be the issue, it's probably a good part to have on the shelf.

    Possible fuel issue

Excellent, thank you for the info! I'll look into those and try and rule them out.

    Possible fuel issue

I have a new filter set ready to go on before I do the spin-on swap. I'm just trying to get a jump on diagnosis. The truck fired up great today, idled beautifully, revved just fine and returned to idle with no issue. This doesn't feel like a filtration issue to me.

    Possible fuel issue

While I'm waiting for my 700R4 to be ready to swap in, I'm working the bugs out of my m1008 (stock 6.2L Detroit). The previous owner reported that the main fuel filter is new but the inline fuel filter that's been installed before the lift pump might be an issue if I experience power loss. On...
