M809 Series- Front axle work and what to expect

My fault for calling chicken little. Sorry. No worry you are repacking the bearings and that is what seems to fail a lot if not serviced when we get these trucks. If you have the cross type axles I would bet there are good and even if you had the ball and seat bet it still has enough grease to...

M809 Series- Front axle work and what to expect

That is why I like the cross type and not greasing the knuckle and not over greasing the knuckle pivot pins. That way if I do go fording to drain out any water in the knuckle I just have to remove one of the bottom king pin cap bolt and drain out any water.

M809 Series- Front axle work and what to expect

Yea guess so. I see that you just had the hub seal problem and yea the thread started with full service. I always like to go neck high when servicing these trucks as we do not know how it was treated or what we have. The Deuce and the 5 ton axles I have serviced all seem to have the newer axles...

M809 Series- Front axle work and what to expect

Yea I would put grease in the knuckle and pack it around the CV joint if you have the old Timken ball and seat type of axle / CV joint. I do not put grease in the knuckle if there is the newer cross type universal joint. But know matter what axle you have before you put the spindle on the...

Freezer bag not freezer they are thicker I believe and won't rip getting that nasty grease on you hands. Myself I like the way the grease makes my hands smell and oh so soft.

M809 Series- Front axle work and what to expect

Brutacus pretty cool you found the front drive flange makes a good seal installer. As you said it does not hit the rubber and hits the metal edge. You were right and that is the main thing as the seal installers in the other post would not work as it would be crushing / pushing on the rubber...

M809 Series- Front axle work and what to expect

The seal drivers in post #54 will not work . I took my CR seal driver tool and added the ring and yea I have the handle. Also you do not put grease on the seal edge if that is what you are talking about. You can clean the mating service of the hub with some light emery paper to get it clean...

M809 Series- Front axle work and what to expect

Yea saw the same problem with the 5 ton hub seals long ago. Called CR and asked if they had the correct seal installer tool and they said no. I had this one made up by adding a ring of steel around the edge that lines up ok with the inner ring . Most seal installer tools put the pressure around...

Agree with everything but using the old hub grease seal . New seal is the way I would go.
