    9 out of 10 shortwave sets can't demodulate SSB. AM is much easier to receive than SSB, as you don't need a beat frequency oscillator to listen to it. Private and commercial aviation both use AM to communicate SSB is more complex to transmit as well. DG

    AN/GRC-19 is the way to go then. A beautiful radio set. The later replacement GRC-106 is a nest of problems. It makes 100W, high-level plate modulated power in AM, far superior to SSB in emergencies. Get your 100A alternator ready, too. DG
