    M135 spit'n and sputter'n

Thanks guys for the continued advise. I think the fuel system is still not kosher....even though he cleaned the filter way back when the trouble started, he must have some crap in there.

I agree and I'll urge him to go back over the fuel system again. He could just have another blocked fuel line. Thanks!

    M135 spit'n and sputter'n

I read your message above to him and he thinks he has it set correctly but it doesn't make a difference. Timing is correct too.

    M135 spit'n and sputter'n

Originally the truck would run and then just quit until it cooled off. We eventually decided that dirty fuel filters were causing the civilian 24v pump to overheat and quit. After the fuel filters were replaced, it ran good. Then he decided that if the filter was that dirty, perhaps the...

    M135 spit'n and sputter'n

He's already had the valve cover off and the springs are OK. He changed out the distributor cap and it acted differently but still would not start. He swapped the wires and it did nothing at all. No fire. So he changed them back. Now it trys again. Ok, here's the question on the float...

I passed on the note about the distributor. He's going to try to swap it around 180' or change the plug wires.

    M135 spit'n and sputter'n

As far as we know, the power valve is fine. The regulator is set at 3psi. We have had the "bowl" off the top and when we throw the switch, we can see the fuel bowl fill and the float stop it. What does the manual show for a float level? I think that he has it set for 3/4" below the level of...

    M135 spit'n and sputter'n

I wanted to update this thread as we have been working on the truck today and it still won't run. Matter of fact it is worse. Over the last month or so, we got a rebuild kit from a member here on SS. It was dated sometime in the late '80s. My buddy rebuilt the carb with the kit and after...

It has a separate regulator. This arrangement was on the truck when he bought it years ago. It doesn't seem to be flooding out.

The pump is an externally mounted 24v civilian pump. I gave him another new one to swap it out and he hasn't done that yet. I'll remind him to try that.

    M135 spit'n and sputter'n

I wouldn't say he's "throwing" money at it. He's terribly slow and deliberate on things like this. It's taken him all year to get to this point. He will always try to rehabilitate an old part before he'll spend money on a new one. I think he is going to pull the valve cover in the next day...

    M135 spit'n and sputter'n

He's replaced the coil and been through the govenor. I'm not sure of the mileage but as far as I know, it's never been rebuilt. He's had it at least 10 years and he's put maybe 1000 miles on it, mostly for parades and such. Here's the obligatory photo taken last year when it was running...

    M135 spit'n and sputter'n

My buddy has a nice M135 which, for nearly the last year, has given him fits. He's replace/adjusted the points, removed, cleaned and timed the distributor, checked the plugs and wires, cleaned and reworked the carb twice...and it will start (most of the time) and even run for a bit but quickly...
