from the pictures, it no wonder it dosn't work. You need to just make the jump. Buy the -054 and do it. People will jump in and help if you need it. Its really only a few wires.

Its clear that you can not regulate AC Volts. You volt regulator is bad. You need a new/old style one, or a After Market VR. Just buy a new after market volt regulator and install it. It can not be hard. There are directions that come with it. @Ray70 Ray, didnt you install an after market VR...

Should work. But the reason the exciter box is bad, is not the exciter. Its the volt reg card, 99% of the time. .
