Should be in the TM forum here in SS. Go up to the top, click on Forums. Scroll down to generator TM's and start looking through the several pages of TM until you see the ones for your model.

You do not need to take it off. Look at the wire diagram and see were the wires go. Then hook 24 volts up and see if it works.

I do not think its a retrofit. Looks like all of them I ever saw, or worked on. So, Have you downloaded the TM's for this gen set? Have you tried the troubleshooting in the TM's Have you looked at the wire diagrams?

Take a picture of the throttle/gov. Lets see what it is.
