    Can't drain fuel/water separator - Cat 3116

One more thing I discovered, at least with my truck: The fuel/water separator will drain best right after the motor is shut off. I think this is because there's still enough fuel pressure to force draining. Waiting a longer time will not allow for draining at all. Make sure to wear a hat and...

    Can't drain fuel/water separator - Cat 3116

I finally got around to replacing my fuel filter today. For those of you unfamiliar with the M35A3, here are a couple pictures showing where the fuel filter is, the filter being yellow and toward the rear driver side of the motor, and the fuel/water separator valve being red and accessible...

    Can't drain fuel/water separator - Cat 3116

I've done a little more research into fuel/water separators that won't drain. Apparently this problem is caused when the wax in diesel fuel congeals and blocks the drain passages. I can see this being an issue for this truck since it sat for a long time without being run. So I think the thing...

    Can't drain fuel/water separator - Cat 3116

I drained the fuel/water separator a second time, also with the truck running. The fuel came out in a higher-pressure stream this time. The fuel is still water-free, but there's still dirt coming out. Anyone know if this is because I need a new fuel filter because my current one is dirty, or...

    Can't drain fuel/water separator - Cat 3116

I don't think the Cat 3116 has one. The operator's manual says just to open the valve on the thing. It never mentions that the motor must be running, though. I can't speak for the multifuel.

    Can't drain fuel/water separator - Cat 3116

I finally got around to draining the fuel-water separator on the truck. I did it while it was running, so I chocked the wheels and donned safety glasses and ear plugs. I got under the truck, opened the drain and out came diesel! So it looks like my fuel system is pretty water-free. When I...

    Can't drain fuel/water separator - Cat 3116

No, the A3s didn't come with an in-tank fuel pump. I'm wondering if I should try to carefully drain the separator while it's running. Any FMTV guys know? I know the same motor was used in some LMTVs.

    Can't drain fuel/water separator - Cat 3116

I attempted to drain the fuel/water separator on my M35A3. I opened the valve and nothing came out. Looking at the fuel/water separator, nothing sticks out to me that would function as a vent button or anything to release any vacuum on the separator. I ran a small allen wrench through the...
