I did a four flush-out of the motor oil in my transmission when I first got it. I drained warm motor oil, then filled with Dex, then drove around till warm. Drained and did this 3 more times to make sure it was clean of motor oil. I have owned the truck now for 4 years and have had zero issues...
I had a similar problem.
Mine was inside the solenoid. There is a large copper washer-disc. The surface can get pretty rough and inhibit the starter from starting. I took mine apart and found mine to be very rough. I flipped it over to the fresh backside. Put it back together and installed in...
I understand the running up your backside. I watch my mirros as much as the front when I am out and about.
I haul my bobcat on a PJ trailer behind my A3-it handles it nicely. The brakes are a little suspect though with lots of weight on a trailer. I have a 900 series 5-ton. Faster and would...
The transmission in an A3 is common in commercial use. Its very similar to an old Turbo 400. I have an A3 that shifts perfectly. Sold one that shifted great as well. Have a 5-ton with Allison that will knock teeth out on the 2 to 1 downshift (common problem). While a 5 ton will trundle down the...
Have a buddy that was a master cat mechanic-has experience with these engines. He has explained the shut down of these engines-something to do with injector staying open on start up. If they are not set right, you will need to crank a lot to get the engine started. The issues is an adjustment on...
I am back at work and have located the first page of install manual. I have a Hot Start SB heater. It looks like its perfect for the plumbing on an A3. There is a hose that comes out near the water pump that I intend to tap my heater into.
Look at the diagram-its perfect.
Pete
I bought a few of them from an ss member
I think he dtill ha some listed in parts ads
The a3 is perfect for install
Think they are called hot shot
Pete
I have one that I will be doing an install. Looks simple. I am planning on taking the small heater hose from water pump and splicing in the Hotshot where the hose lays on the inner fenderwell. Simple.
Even the diagram in the hotshot install manual looks just like the A3 install. Care must be...
I have two A3's. Switched both out to ATF with no issues. One does however shift like my Honda-perfect and smooth. The other is good-just not quit as smooth.
I agree with Jerry. Though I have 395's on my A3, i run it at 50 MPH or 2500 RPM. I drive it and grease it all of the time. The more its driven the better it is for the truck. Before you venture out-I would buy a set of lock outs for the front. They will reduce noise, increase mileage (well a...
I have looked at the directions on the hotstart. Looks like its made for the CAT. Needs to be located lower than pick up from water pump heater hose. I plan on mounting the unit to lower fenderwell and simply plumbing it in between the heater hose that heads to the cab heater. I will be picking...
I just picked up a few Hot Start inline engine coolant heaters. Am going to install on this week. I have found my truck will start in weather as cold as 10 degrees f with a little shot of ether.
Pete
Both my A3's had split but not leaking lower radiator hoses. I got new ones from Ericks M35. I have also replaced the main pressure line from regulator to pitman arm on steering.
Pete
Agreed. Every other A3 I have seen has the duct hose torn up if not crusted out. I did replace my compressed air hose that goes from the frame to the pitman air. The braded hose seemed to leak and create real hard steering. Replaced with cammozzi fittings -90 degress elbow and push fit hose...
