    Happy Independence Day !!

    1968 Mack M123A1C 10 ton Tank Transporter

The front tires are 14:00-24 Goodyear All Service and in another place it says "MILITARY OZ". There is no other name on them. Unfortunately the sidewalls are not great and I will need to replace them. I would like to find a set of six of these or something similar as the truck had these type...

    1968 Mack M123A1C 10 ton Tank Transporter

Had the 10 ton out for a little sunshine and a test drive this week. Lots of sitting over the past few years didn't do the injection pump any favors, so I just had the injection pump overhauled and now she purrs like a kitten. I also replaced the tachometer as the old one locked up and took out...

    1968 Mack M123A1C 10 ton Tank Transporter

Good luck with your 10 ton search. They are great trucks. Shipping costs have at least doubled and sometimes tripled over the past year, so I would try to find one as close to home as possible. I just paid about $3.50 a mile to move mine so you could easily be looking at a 10K shipping bill to...

    1968 Mack M123A1C 10 ton Tank Transporter

Thanks for that cool link lol ! Sterling built a lot of interesting trucks for the military during the war, including a huge dual chain drive wrecker for the Navy, but no trucks like my 1950 were built for the military. Unfortunately it is not eligible for MV of the Month, but thanks for the...

    1968 Mack M123A1C 10 ton Tank Transporter

The rusty truck is a 1943 Federal 606 7-1/2 ton 6x6, a former Army Air Force C2 wrecker. I have the correct wrecker for it. The dump truck is a civilian 1950 Sterling HB2002D with chain drive and its original Cummins HRBB600 diesel.

    1968 Mack M123A1C 10 ton Tank Transporter

The 10 ton is finally home. It was three years ago that this truck was bought in New Hampshire, then moved to Connecticut, then another move to New Oxford, PA, moved again to Gettysburg, and now, finally, home to Florida. It needs some work but it will have to wait in line behind some other...

    1968 Mack M123A1C 10 ton Tank Transporter

At 1 or 2 MPG of diesel, I think it is cheaper to get it hauled !

    1968 Mack M123A1C 10 ton Tank Transporter

I had to look all the way back to page 12 to find this thread. There is finally some news to report on the '68 M123A1C. I travelled to Pennsylvania last month to work on the truck and get it ready for the big ATCA truck show in Macungie Father's day weekend. Since most of the paint and assembly...

It's not mine, my truck is being stored at the Wheels of Liberation collection in New Oxford, PA.

    1968 Mack M123A1C 10 ton Tank Transporter

No. no paint has been applied to either one of the Federals. Before my surgery I was trying to get the Mead Morrison/Gar Wood US6 crane sorted out, but of course that is on hold now too.

    1968 Mack M123A1C 10 ton Tank Transporter

I had a bit of a surprise in September when some tests revealed I needed a triple bypass surgery ! The recovery is quite lengthy so that put the kabosh to any plans I had to travel to Pennsylvania and work on the 10 ton for the rest of the year. However thanks to John Gott there has been some...

    1968 Mack M123A1C 10 ton Tank Transporter

I realized last week that the 24087 is the actual paint code that is referenced on the 1968 Mack order sheet. So this is definitely the correct paint for this truck.

Howard, the 10 ton is deceivingly huge !

    1968 Mack M123A1C 10 ton Tank Transporter

We will be in good company at Macungie, with John Gott's 1942 Ward LaFrance 1000 Series 2 M1 wrecker, and the Wheels of Liberation Collection's 1942 Diamond T 981 prime mover. We will be at the show Thursday thru Saturday.

    1968 Mack M123A1C 10 ton Tank Transporter

It's not done, but it is done enough ! All the big stuff is on, including the spare tire and that big heavy (200+ lbs) winch pulley assembly. We also removed the metal top as the front of it is pretty fubared where it had been previously welded to the windshield frame. There are no tail lights...

    1968 Mack M123A1C 10 ton Tank Transporter

A lot of cleaning, sanding, painting, and assembly has been going on. Most of the big stuff is on. Still a lot of things to do but we are looking good for Macungie on Thursday. The M123A1C is starting to look like Army issue again.

    1968 Mack M123A1C 10 ton Tank Transporter

Thank David. That puts the drain plug towards the frame on the passenger side. My truck was plumbed to run off of one tank years ago. the passenger side tank was removed.

    1968 Mack M123A1C 10 ton Tank Transporter

I got my paint from Midwest Military. It is the correct paint for a Vietnam era truck.

Got the new windshield frames painted yesterday and installed today. Now we will be taking a break for a week or so to attend the ATHS truck show in Harrisonburg Virginia and visit with friends.
