That is 10x better over my design. I just use the plate and receiver mounts from Harbor Friend. I took the lights off as they are all on the grille now. Yours is all fabricated and done very well. 1998 Suburban CUCV clone.

That brings up a good question for Texas, do axillary lights need to be covered here in Texas? Because I kind of have allot of them on my Suburban CUCV clone.

If you did not also add a headlight relay harness you are going to overload your headlight circuit with those H4 bulbs in those headlights. You should check to make sure your 20 amp fuse is not getting hot and melting the fuse holder.

Yes it is in the 73-87 catalog; page 80 (page # may change with newer catalogs). Both single and dual headlights, for the CUCV it would be single 36-3580. You should also look at the Headlight circuit sticky http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?87544-CUCV-Headlight-Circuit Also this...

I saw the picture before I read your comments and said to myself, wonder if he got that idea from may antenna mounting idea. I see you did and thanks for the tag, it has held up well. Taken my Suburban through many tree branches and held up well. The M1009 is looking good, saw your post with...

My M1009 project had more work done on today and get everything done minutes before a thunder storm hit. It was a super cool day, so I did not let it go to waste. Started at about noon and got done at 6:00 and I got everything I needed on my parts run this time successfully. Most of the time I...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I had to get this work done today, my Suburban needs to be running for something this weekend, so I got my spin on filter installed and fixed my power steering pump. After that it all went in fine and both parts are working great. For the filter I had to used some large nuts to gap it away from...

No it does not have to be bare metal, just that if you sand it down to clean rust and other stuff leaving the bare metal left is fine. For where there is current paint all you need to do is scuff it down to clean up any dirt and such. The surface just needs to be rough to hold the liner without...

When you get your M1009 done and are interested in bed lining the inside I have a guy here in Hurst that I used for that. He has lined two vehicles for me now, a M1009 and Suburban and they look great. Perfect level of the lining and no over spray. The price is not cheap compared to a bed liner...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

On my CUCV Suburban clone that is a 6.2L diesel I was trying to tighten the power steering belt and I broke it. I must of missed a bolt or it was not loose enough and when I moved he pump it broke the seal on the case where the two sides come together. So I have it out and waiting for the part...

Since your CUCV is 12v, did you connect the batteries in parallel for 12v?

M1009 project. Sunday. 1. Harmonic balancer - My puller tool stripped out and was turning the engine over, so I had to use my backup puller. So now I need to buy a new one so I always have a spare. (Perfect example why I have a spare) 2. Rebuilt my one of my alternators, the other was a...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Since it has to be 12v, do not go by the CUCV TM on how to hook it up in series (very bad for 12v). It is hook up as any civilian GMC/Ford/Dodge diesel is with the batteries in parallel. You want to do the bottom parallel method for 12v. This document may help to explain how a CUCV is...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

To I_Publius, (Not gonna quote the pics again) Looks like I was correct seeing that it had A/C and was converted over to 12v as the A/C compressor is where the alternator should be. I can see you are pretty mechanical, so that will come in handy with getting that all fixed up. Just make sure...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Fixed my M1031 generator today with the modern controller that b4thundr has been selling here. It takes the place of all those components next to the electric panel with one simple controller only using 6 wires. All the other parts were fine, throttle actuator and magneto PTO sensor. It is very...
