What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Not for cold climates. I've had bad luck with Optimas in diesel engines. They get voltage depression during extended pre-glow periods, then they lack the voltage to crank with enough speed. Might work in warmer climates but absolutely not in Montana.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

I tried the new pressure washer on the 1031. 3.5 GPM, 4000 PSI but it came with size 4 nozzles so at best, it is getting 3300 PSI. The parts manual lists 3.5 size nozzles so I might need to discuss with the sales staff. Anyhow, the lower pressure worked great at blasting the lichen off the...

Looks right. They do fail in the contacts. Too bad they are too hard to open up and clean because that is all that goes wrong if they still click. Did one last week. Thinking of keeping a spare in the Contact Truck.

I think that would be a good idea. I bolstered the one on my VW TDI with an extra fine filter element.

3500 miles since last oil change and it is a quart low. Highway miles without any visible drip. I am certain most of it went through the CDR into the intake.

The resistor will get hot. Smoke from it means something flammable is on the resistor coils.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Replaced the front shock absorbers after a horrible incident last night. Doing 30-35 MPH on a bumpy county road with 45 MPH posted limit, the front axle went into a 2-3 Hz oscillation. Felt like full suspension travel, lasted for 4-5 seconds until the truck stopped with mild braking force.Both...

I nearly broke 20 MPG in my 1031. Doing 60 MPH for over 200 miles. Tail wind most of the way, 20 MPH tail wind. 19.1 MPG.

Sure, they will spin the engine but they lack reserve capacity to heat the glow plugs in cold weather. IIRC, they are something like 45 amp-hour rated where Group 31s are 85 amp hour and 6TLs are 100. Better have a gear reduction starter if you want to run Red Tops.

Finally sprung my M1031 from the auto and truck show downtown. Snagged a non-working Robotool (24 volt 3/4" impact wrench) so it was worth it. Broken cord, easy fix :grd:

I looked at my M1031 today. Opened the doors. But couldn't do anything, it is at a car and truck show on display with less than 1/4 tank full and fully disconnected batteries. I am a sad panda. I get to spring it from its slumber on Sunday, at 1930 hours or later.

You don't remember the M37 before the restoration, do you? You might learn.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Yes, the impact wrench SAVED the evening. I could NOT believe how tight the crank pulley bolts were. Now you know how to replace the belts. And how it cannot be done without a 15mm socket AND extension. Get a good 3.8' set for the truck, it will get those power steering bracket bolts...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Ok, getting this thread back in order...after moving the compressor in my 1031 SECM last night, I didn't have time to test it. Well, this morning I fired it up. Runs like normal except the unloader valve is leaking during compressor operation, before it leaked after the compressor stopped so...

6.2s are DETROIT DIESEL designs. Cook? Only if you try to hit the governor limit. The cooling system is more than adequate.

Ok, here are the pictures from my compressor remount job. First, you see how it is mounted. Simple 1" square tube spanning the width. The 3/8" bolt mounting bolts run through 1/2" OD 16 gauge tube which has an ID just over 3/8". This keeps the tubing from crimping. The right side ends are...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

I moved the air compressor in my M1031 SECM to on top of the generator. Real simple shelf made of two 1' square tubes, extending from the generator power panel to the cross brace channel on the right hand side. Is sure frees up floor space AND makes oil changes easier. on the compressor...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

I did another mechanic job WITH my 1031 SECM over the weekend. Put over an hour on the generator and air compressor to power my air tools. I've never had a MacPhearson strut job go easier since impact wrench reduces muscle fatigue. Have tools, will travel.

About 100 feet of "commute". I did go around the block. All parts were on hand. I did use a few pennies of Lava soap.

Hooligans? It isn't an ipod/pad/phone, the zombies in the neighborhood don't want it. They won't even look me in the eyes because they fear zombie hunters.2cents Now, what the M1031 did tonight..have tools, will travel. Front axle brake job on a mid 1990s Ford Ranger. The Nylon pistons (yes...
