Today we find out that the storaged Tornado we saw at the museum was the prototype plane that introduce the fighter .
Yes, the are very kind to us enthusiasts. It´s not a private museum it´from the forces (Bundeswehr). They have shelters full of stuff for the next 100years to restore to display.
The Unimog 406.145 has a torque converter and a clutch. You have to change gears like a manual trany but you can stop at the light and drive further at the 6th gear if you want.
This is for a jerk -free pulling or pushing.
The last pic is scrapped from www but it´s the same model.
The nominated Unimog 406.145 aircraft tug with his german/american brother Unimog 419 SEE (small emplacement excavator. The SEE has a Schmidt (USA) front loader and a Case backhoe. (y) :cool:
The Unimog has a front PTO. You can use brush , snowplow or other add on equipment. Plow and brush are the original dilivered equipment for the 406.145 aircraft tug. They dilivered an deicing trailer, too. But we don´t find one ,yet. :love:
The plane was used by the frech allies. They do exercises in recover people out of the plane, they told us. Don´t know the typ of the plane nor the belly throat. ;)
With the bunch of levers at the trany top it´s easy if you use them once.:driver:
Yes , she can piggy back about 16 tons. And she has a cab with two very confortable sleeping beds inside. That was a great effort in the early 90th. :beer:
It´s not a fun to drive more than 100 clicks on one direction a day in this multi purpose truck. :love: :cool:
