Did you inspect the mounting surface for the turbo and the turbo itself very carefully?
Any damage, dings etc. could cause your issue, even thought there is no valid reason to run synthetic oil in a Detroit I don't think that would be your issue here.
It is a very simple setup as far as the...
GEP built a 240-250HP 6.5L(EDIT P400) it was spacial built, even with all of the improvements GEP made to the 6.5L IIRC it required special pistons/rods and a big girdle bolted to the bottom of the block to keep the crankshaft in the motor, and likely studded heads, AND again IIRC it required an...
The engine will not take more boost, this is an indirectly injected high compression engine that was very poorly designed from stem to stern.
it has a 22:1 compression ratio, the Duramax only 16:1, The basic engine pattern is of a gas engine, cranks break, blocks break, heads crack
If you get...
The
That engine is a turd, while you may get a minimal power gain without spending tons of money it's just not worth the effort, in the end a turd is a turd, many before you have figured this out, some the hard way.
At the end of its civilian production that GM engine had a total of 4% of the...
I will look and see if I can find the specs, on "regular" steel steel connections you can look up the fastener specification, thread size/count/grade.
This would be OK for the exhaust elbow.
IIRC it is an M8 bolt.
Very good guide for items that the specs are hard to find.
EDIT, you would reduce...
You really don't need an installed boost gauge, just hook one up for calibration and if you need to diagnose a problem.
PS you will be bummed out every time you look at a 30psi gauge, 15psi gauge will make you think "yea I'm really doing something"
That is fairly hard to screw up, especially when building an engine on a stand, it looks really old, maybe they did not even change it?
how many miles did you think your motor had?
Or maybe they are farther down on the left side, IIRC all of the detroits had that number, I think the one you are looking for has some letters in it.
You likely have a GEP.
That snowman looks damaged on the feed side, such a simple thing I wonder how they screwed it up, I think the numbers you are looking for are on the other side of center
The waste gate is super simple, it is just a spring pushing against the "valve" in the turbo, when the back pressure gets to the point it overcomes the spring pressure it bypasses the exhaust turbine, as long as the valve is not stuck in the exhaust elbow it will work.
Here is a link to...
I rebuilt my cartridge with NOS shaft and bushings but could not find a NOS compressor wheel, so i installed an aftermarket wheel, it has a longer nose than a stock wheel, lots of people sell the same dang wheel, but there is one company that calls it "wicked" total hokum I believe now, I...
I looked around and found a few NOS parts online, I ended up using a Chicom "wicked wheel" compressor as I could not find any NOS wheels.
The turbocharger is one of the most basic mechanical devices, you will probably get good service from the ones available now and I think it would be...
I rebuilt mine with a new shaft, bushings and compressor wheel, it seemed to have an excessive amount of play until I turned it over and filled it with oil so they are going to have a noticeable amount of play, you may as well replace it, just remember all the cartridges being sold now are from...
