Hmm.. AHJ never gave it a second look when we did the shop install as far as the bushings go.
I like the taps for certain things. We used them on our grid tied solar install and have had good luck with them. What's your issue with them?
Pretty well buttoned up. Added a 30a 110v breaker and outlet to the main panel that feeds the bus that both the fridge and freezer are on. That way if needed, I can run my small inverter unit and keep things quiet.
I also tied in the load test panel permanently. It's fed directly by the...
Made some progress this weekend.
Isolated the neutral at the generator and finished wiring it up. Its done and ready to go electrically anyways. Need to get new batteries and I want to get a spin on oil filter adapter for it yet.
Got most of our new circuits ran (instead of isolating...
More progress but no pictures at the moment.
Was finally able to get my hands on the single conductor wire needed to pull the neutral from the 400a Meter/Main panel to the 100a subpanel/generator panel. They didn't have #1 aluminum in stock so went with #3 copper. Our hvac guys let me run it...
It does need a neutral as this is technically a sub panel. Its powered by a 400a meter base with 3 main breakers... 200a to the house.. 100 to the shop and 100 to this panel.
I'll get a bushing for the panel. The one I pulled didn't have one either and it was just changed by an electrician...
I thought about that but with how much wiggle this conduit has (not anchored), I don't forsee a problem.
We'll see. It may crack the conduit in a few years and if it does or if there is a lot of movement, I'll get a section of flex for it.
Made some progress today... got the panel...
Progress!
The unit is now under shelter and wiring has been ran. Im pretty happy with the outcome so far. Got it anchored to the pad as well.
Panel will be here tomorrow supposedly. We'll see
I'll say this about grounding... when I did my grid tied solar install, I spent months studying the NEC. ALL ground rods MUST be bonded to the main service entrance ground. Its common practice for large pieces of equipment such as a generator to have instructions stating to drive in a...
Got home and my wire had arrived... so fired up my old back-hoe (as in my back... my hoe.. and my shovel) and got the trench dug and conduit/cable in the ground.
Good times. Panel will be here Saturday so I should be all tied in and good to go by the end of the weekend.
No... its not real...
Well after pricing quality water-tight 60a connectors, it'll be getting hard wired. Lol
Now I'm looking for ideas on running conduit to the terminal box on the unit. I don't want 2-2-2-4 coming out of conduit and just loosely being stuck into the box. I'm leaning towards drilling to box and...
If I went that route, I would likely have a rod at the pad where the unit stays connected all the time.. and the twist lock would bond the rod and gen frame to the house grounding system when connected. That way, the unit always has a ground path no matter how it is being used.
Pretty slick setup.
I'm not overly worried about disconnecting the unit as I'm going to integrate the "load bank" into the load center at the house. In the near future, I'll be building a solar water pre-heater for the house water supply. I'll be using a large heavily insulated tank as the...
Thats in the last part of post 3. We're dropping 2-2-2-4 in conduit. I'm not 100% on how I'm going to anchor the unit to the pad yet. I don't have a good way to move it so drilling the pad for the holes that are in the frame. I may utilize the tie down rings. We'll see. I'm also...
If you get time, check please. The wording on 250.66 has changed multiple times. Last change Id seen had changed the wording to say that no LARGER than #4 aluminum or #6 copper was required unless going to an encased rod, etc.. or an engineer specifies larger.
I liked the idea of adding a rod for lightning protection more than anything... but not necessary. May not do it then. If you dont mind, what code calls out #4 copper as minimum? I'd like to read up on it. 250.66 says #6 is fine for anything under 1/0 aluminum. Perhaps I'm taking it wrong.
Next was to move the unit from the garage where its been to get repaired.. to the back and onto the pad without a tractor. We got creative. With a couple of 4x4 posts... a 4" piece of C Channel... some 2" straps and 2 come-a-longs.. we turned the truck into a crane of sorts. Not...
Hey alls,
Now that I've got the unit somewhat buttoned up and load tested, it's time to put it in place and prepare it for use. In this thread, I'll detail how I'm doing just that... a lot of which I've never done.
Anyways... lets get started. First, I needed a solid location for the...
