Bought an MEP-805B, started messing with it

I hadn't considered the key. I'll check it out and see what I find

Bought an MEP-805B, started messing with it

So I started messing with the injectors, trying to narrow down what cylinder it was missing on. And I decided to check the oil just because of the knock I heard. Well, it's glittery. So I don't know if the top end has a tight valve or if something is coming apart inside, but it's definitely...

I'll give that a shot, definitely couldn't hurt anything.

Bought an MEP-805B, started messing with it

So in case this helps anyone, I got the quote from my John Deere dealer. NOTE: there are two part numbers for pumps. This part number is the updated part number. I'm still awaiting quotes from others, and may just have a local shop rebuild it, but if JD gives me a good warranty then that would...

Bought an MEP-805B, started messing with it

Seems like these things are just hard to tell in video. My friend and I were sitting about 100' away behind a connex when it started making the noise. We both heard it loud and clear as soon as it started. We looked at each other and he said "That doesn't sound good" lol. I must have gotten...

Bought an MEP-805B, started messing with it

Sounds to me like a wrecked fuel pump. Maybe a plugged injector caused a plunger to break or something? I'm thinking 4 injectors and a pump unless someone has a better idea. It doesn't sound quite like rod knock to me... Oil pressure was in the 40psi range

Bought an MEP-805B, started messing with it

Ugh I swear, it's like I can't catch a break with this thing. All I want is for it to be reliable for the field.... Listen for yourself

Bought an MEP-805B, started messing with it

I don't think it came out in video the same as it does in person. Digital media, am I right? But it definitely is a HUGE noticeable difference. I even got a second opinion to make sure I was not crazy and he heard it too in person. I'm excited to get the power panel built and put this thing into...

Bought an MEP-805B, started messing with it

Well, I took the right hand side panel off (passenger side) and took off the metal screen for the generator head fan assembly. Low and behold, there were only 3 or 4 bolts in the flywheel and I took them out with my fingers, not even a socket needed to spin them out. I fished the rest out of the...

Bought an MEP-805B, started messing with it

Thank you for the advice, I will definitely give that a shot! Hopefully that's all it is. I live up near Chaparral. There is a new newish neighborhood they built here in 2011 that I live in. I basically live right outside of McGregor range about 4 miles south of the state line off hwy 54...

Bought an MEP-805B, started messing with it

Here is a video I took in the daylight. I definitely hope it is in fact normal. If people more experienced than me tell me it's fine, I'll run with it. By the way, the fuel filter was changed last night. I didn't run it much as it was late. So it likely still has some air in it.

Bought an MEP-805B, started messing with it

I apologize for all of my videos being in the dark, I've been so busy lately I don't even get home before dark. But today I will have time to get some startup and shutdown videos. I could be overthinking the vibration thing, but the noise definitely wasn't there before and it has me concerned. I...

Bought an MEP-805B, started messing with it

Ok, so I still had a little bit of "rattling" from the engine every once in a while. The same as in the video in the first post. After I replaced the fuel fittings on the lift pump, it seemed to have helped alot. I replaced the fuel filter just because it was the next thing in line in my head...

Bought an MEP-805B, started messing with it

So, I just got the radiator back from the shop this afternoon. I got it installed and just buttoned it up. I'm going to wait until the morning to fill it and pressure test for leaks. My buddy pointed out that the radiator can be removed from the "driver" side of the trailer/unit. After that, any...

Bought an MEP-805B, started messing with it

Well, brazing didn't work. It's been so long since I've done it, it just didn't come out good looking. It's still leaking and I'm not sure it it's my crappy brazing job or the neck. I think it's time to quit messing with it and pull that rad. I'm going to see about getting someone to do it as...

Bought an MEP-805B, started messing with it

I've soldered them before and have a bunch of silvaloy on hand. So I'll do that tonight and see how it goes.

Bought an MEP-805B, started messing with it

UPDATE: I went back to my photos from the other day and blew them up on the PC (gotta love high def photos and screens), and it looks like there WAS a very small crack all along. Attached is the photo with what I suspect is the crack circled. It looks like a very small gap with green oxidation...

Bought an MEP-805B, started messing with it

So I got a tailpipe expander and it seemed to do the job really well for the most part. It didn't get it perfect as far as the dents out of it and all that, but it got it back to round. No dice though, still leaks. I took the top off today in preparation to pull the radiator (really thinking...

Bought an MEP-805B, started messing with it

Good to know. I'll see about getting an expander and see if I can make it happen that way. I've been messing with it all day and can't get it to seal up to save my life. If that doesn't work, I might just have someone pull the radiator and I'll take it to a shop so they can go through it anyway...
