    What's this do on my 936 Wrecker?

    That bar is for the "feet" that support the boom for heavy lifting. You should have one on each side of the winch. Those boom supports look a lot like the poles in the foreground of your picture - but are considerably longer. Picture below... (ignore my winch, it is different than yours)
