. Nice to know. Back in the day, we used 80/90 in all the gearboxes on Deuces, 5-Tons, the Internationals, GMC's, Dodges and to be completely honest - anything else that we had that needed gear oil. I'm sure that was a plan to simplify the lube orders. Three oils covered everything that way...

. Generally 80w90 Gear Oil - and like @HDN mentioned - be sure to be sure that it is good for use with bronze / brass gears syncro's. Maybe up north where you are a lighter weight oil in those gearboxes are required as mentioned by @ToddJK ?

. What about a known good ground? The instrument panel in a Deuce is held in place with four Zeus Fasteners in the corners. Sometimes the gauges loose ground and "go wonky". If you have a long piece of 14 gauge wire and some vice grips - clip it to the negative post on a battery, then attach...

. When you remove the gauge panel, you may or may not have a decent ground. The Zeus fasteners are all you get in the "factory" configuration. Our SOP with rewiring was to build a ground to each gauge and one wire out to a known good ground. .

. A good trick for chasing air leaks is dawn diluted in hot water in a spray bottle. Helps clean the truck and if there is an air leak the bubbles will show you where it is.

. That should be enough fluid. Wouldn't hurt to start out on the far end (back axle) then work your way to the front. Then let it sit for a few hours under pressure and come back around again. You should be getting nothing but clean clear fluid with little or no bubbles on the second bleed.

. If you decide to buy a Duck Bill Hammer... Get yourself a bottle and drill a hole in the cap. Maybe a 64oz plastic drink bottle and mix yourself some soapy water. Maybe consider Johnson's No More Tears" for the soap because the first time you hit and miss and the soap flies up in your eyes...

. I'm not sure that @chucky used a shovel to pop the tire bead off the rim. I think he was talking about using a shovel to ease the rim and tire on and off the hub. Might be wrong. Only thing I have seen to pop a bead off a rim is the hammer made for that job. Heck, I even saw a YouTube...

. An extra 16 years on the 30 year old bones does make a body a little slower than it once was. But, if you are enjoying yourself - More Power to You! Mine is a set of 30 x2 +2 year old bones and some days it takes me a little longer than it used to too. What I have noticed is that most times I...

. You can skip your trip to the gym this weekend! Hustling those tires will wear a body out. Using a flat bar and or standing and lifting with your legs with your back to the truck helps a lot. Glad to hear that you made good progress.

. Can't hug that truck on a cold night though :) Glad you made good progress! It is amazing what a little peace and quiet will do for your brain. .

. It really is amazing how buying better quality tools make life so much better... Even that can be the old "Good, Better, Best" proposition. Having FUN doing a project and not fighting the tools - well - it just makes the job easier. Glad it worked out well for you. Vacation is a good thing...

. It would be worth watching somebody do it. I searched "cincinatti truck tire" and there seems to be a lot of Firestone truck tire dealers in the state. Might be that you have something close by you. A few minutes watching and voicing an interest - somebody might be willing to give you a few...

. It really is amazing to watch somebody with skills and a hammer do the job. It isn't how hard you hit that tire - its more about where - and letting the soap do its job to slide that duckbill up into the crack that it creates.

. What you have to do is "break the bead" off both sides of the rim. Tire shops (for cars) do that easily with a tire machine. One breaker on the bottom and another on the top with everything held in place through the center hole on the rim. Those machines are too small for big truck tires...

. Agreed. Especially with automobiles, light trucks, and vans. I worked for a tire company on Saturdays for several years. The guy who owned the place made a point of making sure that I understood not to "beat the lugnuts to death" when I first started. There were even some customers that...

. Not everybody has a 3/4 inch torque wrench and they aren't cheap either. Using a half inch and a torque multiplier will work. --- And then comes the other part of the discussion... When I worked on trucks to pay my bills, I never torqued a wheel onto a military truck. Just the sights and...

. Find that leak. In a perfect world, you should still have air the next day. You always want to stay on top of fixing any air leaks. There might be a plug under the right side of the dash to connect an air hose to. The connector might be "tired". A spray bottle with dish soap and water...
