    Do these need a raiio to work?

    I thought so too, but I have used them on a PRC-25 by plugging both connectors in, as it has two jacks. I don't think it matters which goes to which. It's the same as if you used a separate mike and earphone, and in the field, some used to wear an earphone on one ear, and the handset was plugged...

    yep.. can be plugged into a little PRC-77 or PRC-25 also for some 2-way backpack radio action.
