    I believe the mechanical "stop" is right behind the knob which doesn't require valve disassembly. If you look at items 12 & 15, there's a small locating pin. It's been a while since I tore mine apart, but iirc all you need to do is remove the screw in the center of the knob. If one of those...

    That sounds like something mechanical is broken or missing. Regardless of O-Rings there is a mechanical stop internally that prevents 360 degree rotation.
