If you are going to Moab, you would be wise to install a GM14020856 NP208 support rod, that is, if you haven't already. You can pick up the bolts at a John Deere dealer, they are M16, but I can't remember the length.

Out in front will certainly be the best place to mount the cooler. However, there are several companies including Derale https://derale.com/product-footer/fluid-coolers/transmission/heat-sink which offer frame-mounted heat sinks which will assist in taking away some of the fluid heat.

Based on my experience, it sounds like you could use a little more fuel. Maybe start with a 1/8 turn on the screw and see what happens. Also, in my opinion, the pump timing should not exceed an advance of more than a mis-alignment of the timing marks of 1/16" (please excuse the Red-Neck way of...

Regarding that rubber fuel line under the intake, I changed mine to a new -06AN line. No more sucking air. See Post #294 in my rebuild thread - https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/kinda-got-carried-away-m1028-rebuild.54469/post-2222165

Thanks for your great detailed write-ups. Please let us know which in-line air filter you decide to use. I will soon have the same decision to make after I get my Bullet Supercharger installed. The supercharger blower intake comes out of the blower housing in the rear on the passenger side...

Have you considered adding 2 more lifting brackets so you can lift the engine via 4 points instead of 2? That’s what I did with my P400. If a bracket or chain were to break during engine installation with only 2 brackets, the additional stress on the remaining bracket and chain would probably...

Here’s a link to my thread about aligning the pulleys - https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/squealing-belts-and-how-to-fix-them.189721/

No, I have not and do not plan on installing a turbo. The CUCV alternators bolted right up to my 6.5 P400. I plan to install a Bullet supercharger.

Yeah that’s the same Flow Koller I installed on my P400. I’m making the conversion to dual electric fans if I ever get around to finishing the dang thang. A regular fan/clutch won’t work on my engine now that I’m going to install a Bullet Supercharger.

You will not have any issues bolting the twin alternators to the engine. Everything will line right up. Only thing I will recommend is to align the alternator and PS pump pulleys with the water pump pulley. Maybe a slight casting change after 35 years, but my néw alternators on my P400 were off...

Thanks for the reply. Just so you will know, and for the benefit of all SS members who may happen to read this, the Bostic engine is not a NEW GM engine but instead is a remanufactured unit. I hope you enjoy good service from your engine, as there have been others who have not. Maybe some of...

Thanks for the update. For the benefit of all SS members, it will be helpful to provide information on your new 6.5 Optimizer NAVISTAR engine. Where did you purchase it, the price, warranty, what was included (long block only?), shipping costs, etc. Please remember that the main intent of...

What a bummer. I am assuming you will tear down that engine to find the problem. What block do you intend to pursue? Rebuilt or new?

Yes that is indeed very interesting. I appreciate you posting the link. I will keep this in mind when I go to dropping the P400 in place. If the girdle or pan will not clear the OEM crossmember I will try to compare the ORD part to that beast and see if either will provide clearance. I AM...

Here's an early photo of the P400 girdle showing the front of the pan. I took this photo as the engine came out of the crate from GEP. There's a possibility that the pan will clear the OEM crossmember, I'm just going to need to get the engine started into the space and see. I am anxious to...

Nice work. I’m interested to know how much additional clearance the ORD crossmember provides under the front of the engine. Please post photos of this when you get to installing the engine. My P400 has the extra girdle which spaces the oil pan downward. I’m fairly certain the front of the pan...

Interesting info on that thermostat. I may have a similar issue once I get my P400 installed. I used a new high-flow water pump from FloKooler and a 195 stat. Only difference is my engine will not be turboed so I won’t have as much heat to dissipate. Looking forward to seeing your results...

Sorry for the delayed post. Here are photos of my custom-fabricated aircraft preoiler pump and its related piping. The P400 oil pan is heavy cast aluminum, so I welded a bung on the side for the suction fitting and -06AN hose. I then routed the hose around the rear of the head through custom...

Nice work. I’m actually using that same port over the oil cooler lines as the pressure inlet from the 24-volt aircraft pre-oiler pump. Suction will be from the oil pan up through the pre-oiler then through a check valve and down to the port. -06AN hoses through the entire routing. I’ll post...
