LDS VS LDT and the real differences

The manuals call for the 2 hole injector on the LDS-465-1 (This engine originally came with 1 hole.) not the 1A, according to Continental, the 1A should have the 1 hole injector. At higher power outputs, this is less likely to burn pistons, allows for more fuel burning longer and cools the bowl...

LDS VS LDT and the real differences

Gimp has a point, a healthy LDS sounds significantly different that a healthy LDT. This has even been noticed by people that are not into these machines. Just a comment that something has to be making that difference. Sure seems like it may be the cam. I have also noticed (completely...

LDS VS LDT and the real differences

?????? Sure that was not to advance timing? Advanced timing reduces EGT, increases MPG, increases smoke, increases chamber pressure, and adds turbo lag. Retarded timing, decreases smoke, reduces chamber pressure, reduces MPG, reduces lag and increases EGT. To much advance can result in hard...

LDS VS LDT and the real differences

The pump TM lists different part numbers but identifies no differences for the HH. It is not considered a serviceable component and is to be replaced as a unit. This is due to the lapped fit of the piston. With the exception of an older model that has an extra oil passage and that can be...

LDS VS LDT and the real differences

Do not forget that the LDS-1A uses the ONE-HOLE injectors with the Code B pump. The LDS-1 uses the TWO-HOLE injector, which was a change and not done initially. The TM (226-34) is very specific that the -1 must have two-hole injectors installed. The pumps (Code B and Code F) are...

LDS VS LDT and the real differences

Soooooo, what have we determined is the differences in and LDT and an LDS? According to our combustion/engine guy, the difference in compression ignition "diesel" and M.A.N. "Hypercycle is that the diesel ignites atomized fuel and the hypercycle ignites vaporized fuel which minimizes the...

LDS VS LDT and the real differences

When did the 2 hole injectors replace the single hole ones. My 1989 overhaul date LDS-1A has single hole injectors and the 2910-226-34 manual calls for single holes in Code B pumps? (1) Use two-hole injector nozzle and holder assemblies (fig. 3-163, 3-169 and 3-170) with code F pump, and...

LDS VS LDT and the real differences

I keep seeing reference to the "waste gate" turbo for the 5-ton. My manual gives the wastegate turbo on the LDS-465-1 engine and a non-wastegate turbo on the LDS-465-1A. Just like the two hole injectors on the -1 and single hole injectors on the -1A. Thoughts??

LDS VS LDT and the real differences

I believe that the wast-gate turbo was dropped when they went to the 1A engine. I have a 1990 LDS-1A it does not have a waste gate turbo and has single hole injectors. It has not been altered since it left Continental in that they were able to provide me with the correct replacement parts. It...
