Jared - I spent a lot of time at Balad crewing Blackhawks. I am pretty sure I was home for most of '08 so doubt we crossed paths.
Terrh - sounds quite familiar. That is a crazy intro to working in cars. Pretty impressive that you were able and willing to jump in and tackle that job.
Made it...
Brad is a life saver. Although he is insanely busy with stuff going on at the yard he not only lent me tools and use of his yard he also provided expert advice and a forlift. He also set the idle and looked over some other stuff for me. I wish I had a week here to go through all of his stuff and...
It is amazing that 24 hrs ago I was convinced I would be storing the Deuce and continuing in a U-haul. Thank you so much to DavidWymore and elkhtr for doing the leg work and getting me in touch with The local guy(I want to talk to him about it before I post up his info). He is a great guy with a...
The plan now is, if I can come up with a local transmission tomorrow I will do the awap. If it comes to getting one shipped I will store Brutus here and continue on in a Uhaul. While I am at Rucker I will get things shipped to a friend up here and do the swap after my course. Having a hard time...
Looks like my luck ran out. Opened up the gearbox in the daylight with the intent of swapping out the lower bearing to find three teeth in a row gone on the 5th gear lower gear. It was probably below the oil line when i opened it up the other day. I guess a full rebuild is in order. Now looking...
I have a ir thermometer, hubs are all around 130 in mid 80's heat. Trans was about 160 same with transfer case. We made it to Chilliwack. Getting food and streatching legs. I pm'd cheatindeath. If I dont hear back im going to continue my slow crawl to Bellevue where i can work in a friends driveway.
Checked the jack shaft, all tight. There are leaks but fluid levels are holding steady. Everything is about the same temp under there. I put the t-case in neutral and tried 5th. Still have the rattle. I can feel the vibration as soon as i put the lever in 5th even stopped.
Slowly making my way...
Ill check them. Wouldnt it rattle through all gears if it were the jack shaft?
we were hoping to make the boarder but 30mph in 4th it is taking way too long. Pulled off in a spot with cell reception. Going to get some sleep and check here again.
We saw caribou 6x6 on our way through. Everything was running well or we might have stopped in.
The bad fuel was from Haines Junction.
New day, new problem. When I am in 5th gear I get a nasty rattle from what sounds like the transmission. It started nice and quiet and has grown louder. It...
Turned out to be bad fuel. Got fewsh fuel in the tank and he is back to normal. Was a bit of a scare especially since contact was so difficult out there. Didn't help that it was 45 and raining. Got to Prince George about 4 am. Hit up the Napa and am grabbing a bite to eat then back on the road...
I was going to be towing our Subaru but ran into issues getting a trailer. Now I am wishing We had brought it.
Day 1 - Made about 500 Miles. No issues running great saw 5 moose, 1 Bear and a few porcupines. Other than a wicked head wind the weather was beautiful.
Day 2 - Alternator started to...
I got the seal i have been waitin for today at 5. I just signed out on leave and am departing Ft Wainwright now (1223 am 4 June). I expect to reach Washington in about 5 days. My wife has the camera and we will post when we can.
We will see. Was supposed to depart On the 31st. I had an outter hub seal break on me while I was servicing the hubs. I had a guy in Anchorage mail me one. It should have been here last Tuesday but still waiting. If we get delayed much longer we may have to cut California out of the plan. I...
Going to be a lot of bugs killed on this trip. Will probably have to stop more often to clean the windshield than to fill up the tank.
I will post up as often as I can. The first few days I won't have a connection but will certainly be taking pictures.
Unfortunately I don't have a night camera...
