    Aftermarket CTIS covers for FMTVs

Saw the FB ad. Not a bad looking product. I kinda favor the OEM design (or just a flat ring) as you can pull a tire w/o removing the cover, but that's not a huge deal. His roof rack is also interesting. While I'm not a fan of bolt-together stuff like that, it should help keep shipping...

Ouch, a bit rich for hub caps.. Still, I support folks who make their own wears to sell. I still say that a flat ring on stand-offs is the way to go, though. Pity that MWE didn't put a bit more effort (and a forth mounting point) into their design.

Did he ever share the supplier? A TON of people asked him about them but all I ever saw returned was "PM sent"....

    Aftermarket CTIS covers for FMTVs

Yep. They're funny like that. Searching FB from external sources has always be a bit dodgy.

    Aftermarket CTIS covers for FMTVs

The guy literally spammed the LMTV groups with those images (here's just two of the LMTV groupsd I'm in over there, I didn't look in the others I belong to). And when you ask for any detail, he says "PM sent" (but I don't use Messenger and my only FB account is a friendless marketing account...

    Aftermarket CTIS covers for FMTVs

I don't know if the guy was prototyping them in the past or if they were sourced, but I knew that I'd seen those before...

    Aftermarket CTIS covers for FMTVs

I've as usual, found a civilian part that's a fraction of the cost....
  8. Third From Texas

    Aftermarket CTIS covers for FMTVs

There's a guy supposedly selling these on FB. No info other than it's in every military vic and LMTV group. It's one of those "I'll have to PM you the details" things (which means it's typically shady or embarrassingly over-priced). ;)
  9. Third From Texas

    Aftermarket CTIS covers for FMTVs

I've posted HET covers in previous discussions. Just another example of the same concept. *not 14 ga You could come off four of the hub bolts by welding another bolt to the head facing outward. It would remove the weight/need for standoffs, moving some added mass to the center, though. Not...

    *$200 shipping (no exceptions) ;p

So *that's* where they got them. <cough> OP

    Aftermarket CTIS covers for FMTVs

Seriously, though... You're second assessment is correct. The reason they aren't seen much on rock crawlers (or rigs racing at KoH) is two fold: 1) the "rings" that they run are in fact over-sized extensions of the bead lock. Think that thru a second. What happens when one takes a serious...

Plywood? That would quadruple their price. ;)
  14. Third From Texas

    Aftermarket CTIS covers for FMTVs

    * "USED to run" ;p Yeah, back then the engineers had not discovered the concept of incorporating slots or holes. Not until the government spec'ed "no mud or pebbles" did someone make such a breakthrough. Now if there were just some way to cut some form of hole or slot in the metal like the...

    Aftermarket CTIS covers for FMTVs

And a flat plate would be crushed at 14ga steel. But I'm pretty certain that a 1/4" wheel ring can take a lickin' if it's resting against the rim. So make them to the desired thickness that sets you mind at ease. I don't disagree that the U-shape allows more bracing surface, but no one is...
  16. Third From Texas

    Aftermarket CTIS covers for FMTVs

Disagree. The OEM's use 4" standoffs with a 3" tuck in the metal back to the rim. MWE use a 2" standoff with what looks like no more than 1" tuck back into the rim. A flat disc (and I'm talking like a giant washer, not a solid disc) could use a 1" standoff and sit flat on the edge of the rim...

I've said for years, just make it a flat disc like rock crawlers use, like sand car bead locks. Just a flat disc bolted to standoffs (like the $3 standoffs and a $1 bolt that MWE or the OEM use).
  18. Third From Texas

    Aftermarket CTIS covers for FMTVs

LOL I didn't want to be the first to say it, but yep. Why only three? To save money. But they don't look the same distance apart and that would drive me insane (LOL). The price is not too unreasonable assuming powder coated, but for another $5 in hardware they could have done it right. I...

Let me guess.... $400 per wheel ?
