Nicely done! Thanks for posting the part number. Are you going to replace the missing shackles on the rear? They come in handy.

It’s probably the angle of the trailer in relationship to the tow vehicle.

So how much did the shock, 1844-2, from Mendenhall Industries cost? Their website doesn’t say. Croft Trailer has the lowest price available that I’m aware of.

Good! Thank you for the info. I didn’t want anyone getting a pricey DOT ticket.

If you plan to tow it on public roads at all, you might check with your states DOT. A lot of new rule changes have come out about fuel tank transport. Just FYI

Many have tried different shocks. I do not remember them all and the search function here isn’t 100%. Try it and see. It would be great to see someone find a solution that works correctly. I agree with everyone else that the shock is too expensive for what it is. At least factory parts...

Thank you for the update. It is appreciated. You are one of many that have tried to use a different, cheaper shock only to realize it will not work. The original design shock is probably so expensive because it’s the only one that will fit that surge assembly correctly. Sucks, but it is...

Brakes are something I don’t experiment with. Of course it’s his trailer and he can do whatever he wants to rig it. But if that trailer is ever involved in a fatal crash, regardless of fault, the brakes will be closely examined. Wrong or modified part means a field day for the attorneys and...

All this trying to get around from paying for the correct shock has been covered and discussed before many times. The price is the price for the correct shock. Croft Trailer has the lowest price. Sure lots of shocks “look” close but there’s only one that’s designed to fit.

The trailer bucking when you apply the brakes means your shock inside the surge assembly is worn out. Easy to change but the shock isn’t cheap. The lowest price you will find is at Croft Trailer. https://www.crofttrailer.com/1844-2-hydro-act-actuator-damper-shock/ It’s a factory part. It...

Dexter and Redline still offer brand new brake rebuild kits. It’s a Dexter axle. No need for a truck brake parts kit since exact replacement kits are available. Any decent trailer parts store should have the parts.

Once you get the surge brake system in shape, they work great and last for years without major maintenance. The hole is to lock out the brakes while backing up a loaded M101A2/3 trailer. Dexter, also a military supplier, makes a FreeBack brake replacement. Very easy install. It allows...
