Engine repair or swap to LDS?

The best you can do is align the wear pattern on the side.of the bearing that closet matches the crank. Whether the bearing is now on top of on bottom shouldn't make any difference as it'll ride in the same groove so to speak, but if switched so the worn section on the bearing is facing a clean...

Engine repair or swap to LDS?

Should be able to tell by the wear pattern, the bearing should match the crank journal. I did the same thing, took a while to match the tiny little wear patterns.

Definitely looks like some wear, but is that bad? I won't say yes and I won't say no. I don't have the expertise to say if that crank needs attention or not, but if that engine ran smooth before you dug into it,I have no reason to believe it won't continue to run smoothly once it's running...

Engine repair or swap to LDS?

The bearings look good to me. Better than the bearings I had and was looking at in my old multi-fuel. Mine had the polished metal part worn off with a brass looking sheen showing under it, which from my understanding was a lot of wear. The pits I don't think affect anything. What's really...

Engine repair or swap to LDS?

Thanks! It's hard to tell imo if the truck isn't driven often. The more often it's driven, the easier it is to notice small little changes as they happen. I've noticed as such like you mentioned. Sometimes just certain sounds catch my attention and I realize something is off, such as the time...

Engine repair or swap to LDS?

I completely understand, I didn't realize there were piston kits, so that's a plus. You recall what the piston kits were going for? Couldn't you just get a loan and put it as a student loan so you don't have to pay it back🤷🤔🤣

Engine repair or swap to LDS?

Something to consider. My uncle has been working on his suv for the past week at my house (he can't work on vehicles where he lives and his shop told him no as they need space for their equipment), anyways, when he takes a break, we'll shoot the 💩. As we talked about my deuce, I told him it had...

You can work around them to clean the block. Cover up any port or gap with a piece of stiff paper or use tape if you're scraping pieces of the old gasket off and don't want anything to go into one of those holes/ports.

Engine repair or swap to LDS?

I went with the newer gasket style years back and my engine had the original style when the gasket blew. I reused the same studs as well because they were seized in place and I only had so much time so I chanced it and luckily it worked out. The studs were cleaned with PB blaster and a wire...

Engine repair or swap to LDS?

At least that's good to know only one piston failed to be in spec. Hopefully no other surprises are found upon further inspection.

Engine repair or swap to LDS?

My question is, are the cracks in the pistons related to heat, age, or both? At what point does a cracked piston head dictate replacement? As far as sleeves, I'd only replace those if they are scored by the rings, if no scoring, re-use them. Unless you're getting a deal on a piston/sleeve...

Engine repair or swap to LDS?

From the sounds of it, I don't think you damaged anything. Certainly doesn't hurt to check though! If you have a bore scope or anything, you can stick it down the hole where the injector was and check the pistons for any deformation. At least if you do find some damage, you have time to look and...

Engine repair or swap to LDS?

I didn't ask, but did you bypass the FDC or changed the fuel settings, this with the pyro reading, or is that a pyro reading in standard configuration and settings?

Engine repair or swap to LDS?

If a piston melted, there would be some serious noises coming from that engine! That melted metal will work it's way into your valves, possibly covering your fuel injector, things like that. It can also seize as it kinda welds itself if the engine stops with that specific piston on the...

Engine repair or swap to LDS?

I wouldn't pull the heads just yet. Has your truck say for a little while for moisture build up in the oil or had really high humidity/lots of rain? Is there potential of blowby coming from the turbo? It could be a lot of things and if you aren't used to seeing it, it can be a little unnerving...
