What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

If you still have problems with the wobble, might need to put a large washer on top of the kingpin springs to increase the preload due to the heavier tires. Looks like you have everything else fixed.

Awesome CUCV and great fab work, man!

Just a heads up for the Cadillac calipers with the e-brake- the e-brake sucks. I ran those calipers for a few years. Swapped them out a number of times for new or rebuilt calipers, all had the same problems. The design of the e-brake is supposed to be self adjusting- when you apply the brakes...

Doing stuff like that is why I got some strong rock sliders. Ha ha

It’s hard to find quality parts now days. Al the cheep stuff is flooding the market and not enough demand for the better and more expensive parts. Last time I rebuilt my alternator, the brand new voltage regulator I put in was no good. Very frustrating.

Here is the reason I was told (and it sounds true, but I’m not an electrical engineer). It’s for quick slave (jump) starting vehicle with dead batteries. The slave cable brings 24v into the dead vehicle and the glow plug resistor and starter both can work and start the vehicle quickly. - Now...

I’ve gotta know how that happened!

I too bought an overseas gear reduction starter for my CUCV and it worked perfectly for many years. Just replaced it with another after having a stuck starter relay.

    1. The power steering pump bolts like to come loose, especially the bolt holding the bracket to the block. Make sure they’re tight first. I put red thread locker on it to keep it tight. 7. I mounted it on the rear bumper because I use the pintle hitch, and for the lights I bought some light...

Maybe 5 at lower temps before the fan clutch really locks in, but when it’s fully engaged they eat a ton of power.

Plus it would free up about 30ish HP.

Wow, at least it didn’t destroy the vehicle! I would think a heavier truck would either break right through or drag those little armored trucks down the road quite a way. I have not had any real trouble with my v-belts. They stretch a bit when new but I keep them tight and water doesn’t seem...

Beads are more useful on larger off-road mud tires that are harder to balance. Plus beads adjust position and help counteract mud and stuff getting stuck in the wheels. Regular sized street tires work best with regular weights.

If it saves people money I’m sure people would be interested. I mounted all mine with the cheapest tire machine I could find and I used the heavy air soft bbs to balance my tires. I got tired of having tires go out of balance with the normal weights method.

So far they have been really smooth and quiet. They are E/121 load rated (3,195 lbs), and Q speed rated (99 mph), and all the reviews I saw for them were good. But I will watch them just as we should with any tire. (I don't drive that fast often or with that heavy of a load) They are...

The original bracket didn't fit the gear reduction starter I put in either. I just grabbed some scrap angle iron and made a new bracket to fit the new starter. Took about an hour to make, and it's been on there since about 2012.

Nice! I need to do something like that with my fire pit area.
