I feel like i'm a broken record (younger folks won't understand that phrase) and am just repeating myself over and over.
PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE !
For the time being, no news is good news.
On my side of this "patience equation", I will soon be entering a new season of my life...
I posted that quoted statement back in SEPTEMBER of 2018 !
As of this date, May 7, 2019 we continue to be extraordinarily PATIENT.
The emotional attachment the family has to this box is waning to our benefit, but that cord is not yet completely frayed and still cannot be considered "severed"...
"Bless me, Father, for I have an MV addiction....."
...And who says I don't already claim the costs of that Green Iron Enterprise on a Schedule C ????rofl
Those expenses are absolutely UNREIMBURSED!!!
In fact, by the good graces of another SS Member here I already have a "starters set" of US...
I am already chasing some leads on that acquisition. Can't say it's an "active" search... more passive right now... but if the Good Lord drops one in front of me you can rest assured I'll be checking it out [thumbzup]
Thanks!
That's exactly why I'm surely agreeable to a S-L-O-W recovery schedule.
I'd prefer planning this recovery as though we truly will be moving a piece of "living history". There just aren't many of her species surviving nowadays.
There aren't really any "battle scars" on her, and I don't...
Well, boys and girls, it's been a month and a half since the last post to this thread.
I finally have an update.
In a nutshell... They have agreed to let go of the K53 Communications Box!!!
Details of the "deal" will be posted only after the mission is completed... and that may take a few...
UPDATE:
Well, it's been about 3 weeks since I presented reasonably detailed proposal for gifting the K53 Box for the sake of historic preservation.
I can report GOOD news in that they have NOT rejected the idea.
However, they are "discussing" the idea between themselves. They have asked my...
Good thoughts.
As for their "need" for money - knowing their business that's not even in the equation. The sentimental and preservation factors seem much stronger facets. Cleaning up the "curb-appeal" of the home is also a huge factor.
One of the comments in our very first meeting kinda showed...
Excellent suggestion - And it's one I've already "played". I have not yet found a data plate on it.
UPDATE:
Before I took the next step, I prayed about how to go about this. I am a firm believer in the power of prayer. I have also dreamed that this K53 could well serve as a CHAPLAIN'S...
Will be re-engaging for "negotiations" this weekend.
Please take a knee and PRAY for God's favor on this acquisition.
I will post progress reports as events unfold.
Thanks.
John
SITREP 2018-06-09
No progress to date.
Summer is in first gear and schools are out for the vacation season.
No negotiations until they other party returns from some travels.
Stand by for updates.
Thank you for mentioning this. Recording and sharing the known provenance (back-story) of both of our trucks and both or our trailers is S.O.P. for Dianna and me. Yes, Sir, we'll be giving credit to those who contribute to history's preservation.
Thank you both, firefox and Terracoma, for...
Thanks for your thoughts.
I realize that I may not have been clear in my last post. They BOTH seemed a bit excited that someone was interested in the box. It is only MY concern that the heirloom-factor might be an obstacle. This is one of the reasons I'm letting them "stew" over it and hope...
SITREP Sunday June 3, 2018
I have successfully made contact with the resident where this K53 Van Body is presently positioned.
After a short introduction and small talk I introduced my interest in the K53.
He is using it as a small "storage building". AND, his wife's father apparently owed...
Here are a couple of WIKI Links with VERY brief mention of the K53 (aka: K-53) van....

And...

Granted, neither link really informs us of anything we didn't already...
Tracer,
OK, Sir, now you've gotten me a bit nervous (just kidding) about my first meeting with the current owner of this NATIONAL TREASURE. Since these boxes are so rare, I don't want to become a babbling idiot and drive the value through the stratosphere before any serious acquisition...
pontiac62,
I believe you are CORRECT, Sir! (Here's a WEEKEND PASS for your hard work.)
Here are a couple pics clarifying those EMBLEMS:
I'll consider this a closed item on my list.
THANKS !
John
