    CUCV M1008 Build

Thanks! I'm not sure if removing the load sensing valve would help the lock up. The valve is supposed to reduce the pressure so if you're already getting too much removing it probably wouldn't make a difference. The valve could be set up improperly but I'm not sure of a good way to check...

    CUCV M1008 Build

Finally put on new rims and tires. Black rock 942688042 and Mastercraft Courser CXT 285 75 r16. I think it looks so much better. Also removing the load sensing valve made a huge difference. Stops very nicely now.

    CUCV M1008 Build

I was able to finish the diff cover install. The Yukon covers are beefy and look great but they don’t come with any provisions for reinstalling the brake line bracket off the rear axle. I ended up getting 3/4” bushings (1” and .5” long) and then machining .030” off so they fit into the cover...

    CUCV M1008 Build

I haven’t done much over the winter to the m1008 but recently took a break from my other projects to work on the truck to get it back on the road for spring. Started with the basics of an oil change and grease, and swapped a new fuel filter cartridge in as well. Last time I got the truck...

    CUCV M1008 Build

I just bent the liner in a little bit at the bottom but even what I did was more than needed. The way i bent it wasn’t perfect and I wasn’t able to put in the one bolt to the cab near the exhaust pipe. But it is still very solid and I’m sure with a cleaner bend it would still fit. Here’s one...

    CUCV M1008 Build

Not sure how helpful these are but here are the pics. It doesn’t touch the frame or body (although it is close in spots) and the header wrap also took up some of the open space there.

    CUCV M1008 Build

Unfortunately it looks like I didn't take any pictures during fabrication so I will have to take some pics when I get home. You're referring to the turbo downpipe, correct? Here are the parts that I purchased/used, all from Summit, in order starting at the turbo. I originally ordered a few...

    CUCV M1008 Build

I have about 2000 miles on the motor so far and overall I’m pretty happy with it. I was having issues with the accuracy of my temp gauge so I changed the threaded coolant plate to this. Puts the sender into the head more so now I’m seeing 195 when warmed up...

    CUCV M1008 Build

Time for a 1000 mile update since the new motor/turbo was installed. Well it sure feels like a completely different truck now, power is (obviously) significantly better than a stock 6.2 and drivability is much improved especially when climbing hills. I highly recommend the Quadstar Tuning...

    CUCV M1008 Build

The motors aren’t cheap but hopefully worth it. And I will definitely let you know! In the next week or so I want to go through all of the parts from this project and see what I don’t want/need anymore so I’ll PM you with a list.

    CUCV M1008 Build

Well I think the block cracks were unrelated to the head gasket issue, that was most likely installer error. 😂 I tried to “fix” the cracks here beforehand, probably would’ve been okay but I just lost faith in the motor after the gasket issue...

    CUCV M1008 Build

As part of the change in motors I went with a DB2-4911 IP. I purchased this from Diesel Care. There seems to be a lot of bad reviews on them, however they have one of the best prices and I've seen on here that cucvrus recommended them so figured I'd take a chance. It took 2.5 months for the...

    CUCV M1008 Build

Well its been a long road with a few detours but I'm finally back up and running again. After getting the motor fully hooked up it ran for about 5 minutes before what I believe blowing a head gasket. I still need to pull that motor apart for full diagnosis and I'm not sure why it let go as...

    CUCV M1008 Build

Next up was 6.5 injectors and lines. I purchased Bostic motors 6.5-DB2 lines to match the new angle on my heads, they weren’t a perfect fit but easy enough to make work. Also did 6.5 valve covers as I’m switching to that CDR setup and added Quadstar tuning valve cover studs and plates to help...

    CUCV M1008 Build

The timing chain play was past spec so I changed that as well and then reinstalled the front cover along with a new flow cooler water pump. Hopefully my anaerobic gasket maker job is sufficient, every gasket kit comes with these gaskets but I followed the TMs along with what people typically...

    CUCV M1008 Build

Then I realized I had some cracks in the lower block webs so worked through that here. https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/block-crack-options.214106/ Then I cleaned up the block deck and prepped for new head gaskets. It takes a while but went slow with a razor blade and carbide scraper to...

    CUCV M1008 Build

After I pulled the heads in the truck, I realized how much it sucked working with it still in the truck so I put the heads back on and pulled the motor.

    CUCV M1008 Build

I’ll start with a public service announcement, if anyone’s considering trying to do major motor work with the motor still in the truck, just do yourself a favor and just pull the motor. I started down the path with the motor in and ended up pulling it since I was 90% of the way there anyways by...

    CUCV M1008 Build

Next up, the fun(er) part of my build, time to turbo the ole 6.2. Gonna add head studs, main bearing cap studs, timing chain, and a flow cooler water pump as well. So far I started pulling everything apart, got the alternators, power steering pump, and intake off.

    CUCV M1008 Build

I ended up changing the trailer hitch receiver out for a class 5 BW hitch instead of the Curt that I originally put on. Somehow I lost a mounting bolt on the receiver last year so it slightly bent the bottom flange of my frame. And I wasn’t impressed with how the Curt spread the load out, it...
