What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Yes, after a few times on various projects, I have finally learned to test items out of the box. Seems like there is no QC any more. Stopped at Autozone, new ones will be here tomorrow. Hopefully they will work out of the box.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Yesterday I removed a defective wiper motor, connected the new one up before installing it...Dead out of the box! I'm glad I tested it prior to installing it. So off to Auto Zone today to get replacements on order.

Oh well... No injuries other than pride. One time I ran over a full can of orange making paint, on a brand new concrete floor in the shop. In front of several employees to witness the event..... Needless to say, I bought a few dozen donuts for that error.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

When going to remote radio locations and for some over-landing adventures, it's always nice to have a generator. Finding a good place to secure the generator on a CUCV with a S250 shelter is a challenge. Keeping it inside the shelter is nice, but not desirable. With no other suitable mounting...

Having a decent set of HD tire chains is a good idea for when the snow get deep.

Took a ride to see CUCVRUS, we finally had a chance to meet in person and chat about a lot of things. Conversations were great and we had an enjoyable time looking at his projects and parts inventory. His work quality is superior! Rick has a plethora of CUCV parts and is very reasonable with...

Picked up the M1008 from Hillbilly Wizard yesterday. The changed out a multitude of drive line parts that needed replacing. Also changed the front and rear differentials to 4:11. The truck runs much better at highway speeds now. John and his crew are great to work with, they took care of...

Picked up a decent lower front seat from CUCVRUS. Removed the upper part and after some re-threading of the lower attachment hardware, I was able to get it all back together. Sure wish I had this completed before the Convoy. The newer seat is much firmer that the old worn out one and fells much...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

After more than 5000 miles on the MVPA TMC19 Lincoln Highway Convoy, changed oil, oil filter, fuel filter, rotated tires, greased all zerk fittings and replaced the rubber flex line at the transmission. Truck ran great and I only had one issue with a weeping #7 injector return line. Cut 3/8" off...

90 feet of wire on each side of the center insulator. Open wire, ladder type feed line from the antenna tuner to the center of the antenna. Barker and Williamson high power antenna tuner (VS1500A) with an Icom IC7300 HF radio connected to a Ten Tec 500 watt Hercules mobile power amplifier...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

The antenna was a 90' (each leg) dipole fed with open wire line. Tuned with a B&W VS1500A coupled to a IC7300 and Ten Tec 500 watt PA. Worked great on 80 and 40 meters. Customers and antennas do not get along, it is amazing what they can do to make them cease functioning.
