    looking thru the TM 9-1826D about the fuel level in the bowl,you said he had it at 3/4 inch below bowl surface,the TM says 1/2 +- 1/32 for fuel level in bowl,needs to raise fuel level,hope this helps,again,CHECK the plugs to see if it is running to rich,black sooty plugs,hope this helps,good luck

    the pic that the TM shows shows a hand holding a t shaped gauge from the flat top surface of the center of the carb between the floats,to the top surface of the side of the carb body ,without the gasket,if you have this at 3/4 inch you are way off,with the float raised all the way up,this CLOSES...

    TM 9-1826D says for float level setting CLOSED is 5/32 below main bodysurface without gasket,shows picture of a special guage ,but gives 5/32 dim in data page for carb ,hope this helps,keep posting

    i have TM 9-1826D ORDNANCE MAINT. manual for HOLLEY carbs and governors,mlooking inthe trouble shooting section ,MAX fuel pressure is 3 lbs,anything else blows the power valve,backfiring sounds like an ignition/timing problem to me,keep posting will try to help,good luck

    could be a vaccum leak,was diaphragm in governor checked/replaced,there are couple of rubber hoses between carb /dist/governor,pg 118 TM 9-8024,30 -40 psi is not time to repair engine ,do manifold vaccum test BY THE BOOK before doing anything else,READ EVERYTHING BEFORE DOING ANYTHING,this...
