    New M1008 Project

So it's been quite the chore tracking down some of the materials but I think it'll be worth the effort. Wait until you guys see the girth of this relay I got for my stand alone, momentary switch-controlled GP system. The relay is essentially a PAC-200 battery isolation relay. I'm getting setup...

    New M1008 Project

Okay great, this thread is becoming near and dear to my heart as it continues to be filled with incredibly useful information. I will do just that. Now, the one thing that still doesn't add up is the gage indicated on the -20 manual diagrams and how the stuff on my truck is so small. I have like...

    New M1008 Project

Thank you Chaski, I think this is the move that we are going to make this summer when budgets aren't so tight and time isn't either. I do love the idea of having an automated controller that works properly and fires the glow plugs when they are meant to be fired. Good look with this idea.

    New M1008 Project

Thank you guys for taking the time to spell all of this out... At this point the entire factory GP wiring system has been removed from the truck and we're looking to put this all back together in a custom/manual configuration. We are on a budget and time schedule to get this done (still a lot...

    New M1008 Project

Okay yeah we've definitely got a few plugs that aren't working because the manual glow plug circuit was not blowing a 40A fuse. Probably an answer to why she struggled to start in the cold sometimes. So if I was to do as you suggested tim/antennaclimber, I would: 1) Connect a large gage wire...

    New M1008 Project

Yes this is correct, except the p/o didn't run a relay for it; they cut out the entire glow plug system and ran the fused (40A) positive feed to a momentary switch, then directly to the orange wires that connect to the glow plugs. Would you recommend putting a relay into this as was factory? I...

    New M1008 Project

Just wanted to let you know tim292stro- Fused the entire aftermarket electrical system with a 40A fuse at the battery and tested it last night with all accessories on at the same time (except glow plugs) and everything worked great, no fuses blew, all the wires look good, and nothing is getting...

    New M1008 Project

Wiring wins Made a few significant breakthroughs last night with this project. When we started working on the truck the Voltmeter was IN/OP, the GEN 1 light was steady on, and the GEN2 light was IN/OP completely; this ended up leaving my buddy stuck about 40 mins away from home at his...

    New M1008 Project

Oh no you're fine and I appreciate your contributions to this. I just wanted to clarify for anyone else reading so they know they don't need to "dumb it down" for me.

    New M1008 Project

Added some fuses and completed the rest of the wiring So last night we got to work again and added an inline fuse for the main power run immediately after the connection to the battery (main_fuse pic). We used a 40A fuse for this- everything connected to this distribution running at full...

    New M1008 Project

By no means am I struggling with this, I completely understand everything being discussed here. It's just good experience to talk things out and make sure we're all on the same page so that we can have an effective, educational, and progressive conversation. I know that's not what you were...

    New M1008 Project

tim292stro- Wow. This is incredible. Mind blown, seriously. If you knew the kind of detailed person I am you'd know how fantastic that was for me to learn. I deeply respect the time you took to write this down and that has certainly adjusted my perspective of how to handle electrical power and...

    New M1008 Project

See the attached picture. I drew over it some to highlight the components. D1 is the first split and D2 is where the hots will be connected; GP is the glow plug fuse. The rest of the individual fuses and accessories have not been added in this picture, the connections are run into the engine bay...

    New M1008 Project

The ground tree is bolted to the shelf that the starter relay, volt relay, and Gen 2 relay are fixed to, directly below the heater controls. That shelf is bolted to the underside of the dash same as is oem. The ground tree grounds connections which run through the switches to ground a 3A circuit...

    New M1008 Project

Yeah this is my first time working on one of these so any thing that's needed has to be bought or made. I appreciate the advice though and will take it into consideration while moving forward with this project. Thanks cucvrus!

    New M1008 Project

This is a great point and I completely agree, it's actually been working discussion point already. We are on a budget so that's why we went with what we did. Could we get away with soldiering them really nice by hand and coating them heavily with liquid electrical tape? Trying to avoid buying...

    New M1008 Project

Work on Old Red this weekend We decided to call her "Old Red". So here's an update: We spent most of the weekend up to our neck in wiring trying to make sense of what we have and what we don't. There were a few things that we were unsure about but here's what we accomplished: Glow Plugs-...

    New M1008 Project

Hey Greg, at this point this is something in the plans but not something that has been acquired yet. I'm sure I'll end up doing a full write-up on this when the time comes if there isn't another thread with this information already. I'll be sure to let you know if I come across anything in the...
