MEP 802a/803a reliability in the field

Guyfang, once again you have hit it out of the park!!!! This is perfect and represents a lot of work. Thank you!! I will be sure to verify, since this is specific to the 803, that the parts are in fact common to the 802. I suspect that most parts are common, but some will certainly be model...

Thank you Kurt, I have been using the method you've described..... was just hoping that there was a cross reference that I hadn't found.

MEP 802a/803a reliability in the field

I'm looking through the wiring diagrams, the -24P, etc and I can't find anywhere that directly cross references a component designation (K4) to a part number. I get the description from the wiring diagram like "overvoltage relay" but I can't translate that description to a part number. The...

MEP 802a/803a reliability in the field

Thank you Kurt. I received the 2 S14 trip switches yesterday. I will acquire a couple of the KUP-14D15-24 Potter & Brumfield relays and add them to the spares stash. You don't happen to know the function of each of them off the top of your head do you? Is their a supplier you'd recommend for...

MEP 802a/803a reliability in the field

Dusting off an old thread here and I've made good progress on this list of spares. My question is for Guyfang. What part are you referencing with item 2 of your list "plastic relay"? Is this the relay socket that the wires connect to and the relays plug in to? Thanks, -Craig

Same here Farmitall. 3 diesels and 2 gas jobs. I keep the gas ones around for heat and light if needed to get a diesel online.

MEP 802a/803a reliability in the field

Couldn't be happier with both of them. As for standards, my problem is that I always want my equipment to be as new.....functionally at least. Which is why that even though I have a fully serviceable volt meter I want to replace it with one that would have come in the machine, along with other...

MEP 802a/803a reliability in the field

Great advice Chainbreaker, and as a matter of fact I came to that very same conclusion myself last week. Adding up the cost of the spares I wanted to have on hand quickly got me into the $$ range of a 2nd running set to be used as backup. Light in the Dark hooked me up with a 600 hour unit...

MEP 802a/803a reliability in the field

That's good to know but MTBF covers the entire system and the likely hood that any one of the many components will fail in that period of time. What I'm looking for is what are the parts that have proven over time, and a large sample size, to be the ones that will most likely fail. If you...

MEP 802a/803a reliability in the field

The longest I've run on TAC (I assume this means Gen power) is 6 days. I would however shut down the generator at around midnight and fire up again around 6am. This was with a 3 cylinder Perkins diesel with a 7.5kw Marathon head. Which I still have and it's 100% maintained and ready. I just...

MEP 802a/803a reliability in the field

Question for those of you who worked with and on the 802/803 sets when they were current issue. (looking in your direction Guyfang) How reliable were these sets for the troops in the field? What types of issues took them out of service? Were there any weak spots or common problems? Were...
