Yeah, I'd say that sounds about right. Right now, today, without HB 506, you can still register and title a military vehicle in Idaho, if you have a title from out of state. It wasn't until just a few months ago, that things started getting problematic with military vehicles in Idaho. All in...
Those were my thoughts as well, and I spoke with someone this morning who is well-versed on all of this stuff. According to the amendment, if you don't have a form 97, you can get what's called a "conditional title". Outside of Idaho (and also how I was thinking), this could mean anything...
A nice little story about the serial number on the title being wrong (they just happened to notice as they pulled it out for me) and that it would take them some time to have the state fix it. My guess is that they had two M998s that they were selling, and that only one of them was titled (not...
Okay, so, yesterday was a pretty eventful day it seems. They amended HB 506 in the Senate.
Here's the amendment:
I bought mine from a dealer next door in Montana, and NOT directly from GovPlanet or any other contractor. For me, there is no form 97. Let's hope the amendment fails - this...
You're welcome. I present to you, Idaho Code 49-107(5):
49 CFR 571.7(c) - the exemption for military vehicles - falls right in that 500-599 range. Which is why I raise an eyebrow when I read:
Idaho Code 49-123(g)
The thing is, none of this is theoretical. Idaho code spells out quite...
Exactly. There's nothing in the Idaho code which says, "These are the parts of the FMVSS that Idaho does not acknowledge".
Idaho adopted the FMVSS in its entirety. To include the exemption.
So right now, Idaho code pretty much says, "What's in the FMVSS is the law of the land here in...
But. . . they DO meet the FMVSS.
FMVSS under 49 CFR 571.7 (c): “(c) Military vehicles. No standard applies to a vehicle or item of equipment manufactured for, and sold directly to, the Armed Forces of the United States in conformity with contractual specifications.”
That's straight out of the...
Not sure who's been staying on top of this, but good news. . . HB 506 passed the House almost unanimously a few days ago:
Given the strong support for this in the House, seems like a sign of things to come from the Senate. . .
Holy crap you can't be serious.
Well, worst-case scenario, I have the resources to fight a long and hard court battle should this bill not pass into law. Here in Idaho, MVs absolutely will be titled and registered one day. It's just a question of whether it will be sooner or later.
Yep! I just find it shocking that it only took one person to say, "Nope, these trucks don't meet the standards", without even looking into the standards, and the sheer amount of high-level officials that just blindly went along with it. It only took me about 45 minutes to figure out that there...
Yep. I've never worked with politicians before. But I'm learning. That's for sure.
I'm guessing they're not even going to read it, and will respond with a boiler plate once they know what it's about.
That's all well and good, but ultimately the FMVSS exemption continues to be part of the law of the land. When the vehicle was manufactured has no bearing at all. A military vehicle manufactured this morning is equally as exempted as one manufactured in 1992 under this FMVSS clause.
Why...
Oh, that wasn't my intent, but if that's what you pulled from it, then it's possible they might interpret it the same way. In all, the text of the bill is actually much stronger - it basically says, "we don't care what the law says or doesn't say - we're going to make these military vehicles...
Beautiful! I have emailed the Idaho Transportation and Defense committee the following:
Dear Transportation and Defense Committee,
I surmise that no other bill brings together the two roles of this committee as House Bill 506 – legislation authorizing the titling and registration of...
Beautiful! I will send them this information as well. It seems that there are quite a few officials here in Idaho who can't open up a book and read the actual laws.
Got it from an equipment dealership. They still haven't taken it off of their website, actually: http://www.equipmentpls.com/inventory/?/listings/trucks/for-sale/6249903/1989-am-general-m998?dlr=1&pcid=2001389224
