Plans for California trip in the works

Spent the day with Jason, traded the dolly for six new 1100's NDCC tires. Great guy! He has a beautiful fully equipped air conditioned shop for any kind of work and he sweatted it out putting the new tires on the rims. I siped all the tires before they were installed on the truck. I replaced...

Plans for California trip in the works

Stopped at the Truckstop at mm84 I40 in AR tonight. The #3 IP to injector line is leaking at the connection to the hydraulic head and I'll have to fix that tomorrow at Jasons. Still haven't attained that mad fanatical look, so I guess I'm okay. Should arrive at Jason's place late morning tomorrow.

Plans for California trip in the works

Made it to the the Flying J truckstop (MM182) just past Nashville today. Truck running well a bit hard to stop at 31,400 lb... Kinda hot, but not too bad. Later

Plans for California trip in the works

Ready at last. :-) Worked on the trailer wiring this morning and found, as usual, a bad ground. Spent the rest of the day on little things loading and adjusting. Got enough biodiesel/WVO loaded for a 2,400 mile range with the trailer, based on the previous trip (8 mpg). Gross vehicle weight is...

Plans for California trip in the works

Almost ready...again. The trailer lights have a poor ground, so I'll be working on it for a while, must have falied on the trip from Georgia because we "fixed" it at Wayne's place before leaving there. Stuck some reflector tape on the trailer for effect. :-)

Plans for California trip in the works

Total horizontal reach is now about 35 feet. We figured that the rafters weighed about 500 lb ea. BTW, in all images the engine is running at 1,400 rpm and uses a 25/75 mix of BD and WVO at 135°F and virtually no visible exhaust.

Plans for California trip in the works

Finished the crane work today and returned home. All the rafters were set and the new steel boom extension worked great. Dang that multifuel doesn't like running at low rpms for hours on end, ran a bit rough coming home, but should be back to normal after a few more miles. It totalled about 25...

No Kenny, this is not one of mine.

Plans for California trip in the works

A few more images of the log cabin under construction. I'll be done when the rafters are set. We had to fab an extension for the required 36 ft reach. A couple of 2 by 10's and several bolts did the job...

Plans for California trip in the works

The unforeseen ocurred! Almost ready to leave this mornig when I got a call from the local VFW post commander. He had been impressed by the "flag pole lift" several weeks ago and asked if I could help place some logs on his cabin project.... Two hours later I'm at the site putting up log walls...

Plans for California trip in the works

Thanks DH! Spent this morning "compacting" Jason's dolly and trying to find the best way to stow it for minimum bed space. The space in front of it will see 53 cubies of biodiesl/WVO fuel, about 250 gallons. Barring something unforeseen, I should be leaving tomorrow morning.

Plans for California trip in the works

Thanks Gary, that sounds great! If you let the oil sit for a while (days, weeks), the clear oil ends up on top and can easily be poured off and filtered as shown in the image above. The rest that's not clear, the fatty hydrogenated stuff goes into the biodiesel tubs. Running a little late...

Plans for California trip in the works

Still tying up some loose ends before the trip...will probably take a few more days. Here I'm mixing fuel, 25% home brewed biodiesel and 75% filtered WVO.

Plans for California trip in the works

Hmm... thanks Gary, I'll check the difference in milage. No, I don't have any compelling reason to take the Southern (I-40) route going West. If possible, I rather hook up with Wade going East when he too has a deuce.

Plans for California trip in the works

Yes, it's still possible, but it'll be slow going for you, my max speed with the laundry trailer will probably only be about 55. I'll keep you posted with dates and times. The return trip is more interesting when we both have the deuces.

Plans for California trip in the works

I need some advise here, to deliver the laundry trailer to Eureka, NV, I have at least two routes in mind, one going cross country on I-40 to Flagstaff, AZ and then North to Eureka. A second route is going cross country on I-70 to Denver and then I-50 to Eureka. My question is, which route would...

Plans for California trip in the works

Wade, not firm on the plans on the day when I'm leaving, but I'll be coming from the Ventura area most likely and heading for Victorville that same day. Riverside may or may not be very much out of the way depending on my route and time of day. According to the map shown here, it would be about...
