All fixed, and so far the locker works great.
The last pic is the 2 missing spider gears that were in the bottom of the housing. I had to scoop all the shrapnel out after draining the remainder of the gear oil.
If I have to do this again, next time I will buy new nuts and studs to bolt the...
Price was right. Other than that it was one of the first things to pop up when I was searching for Rockwell parts, so I thought i might as well upgrade.
I decided to order a Yukon gear, grizzly locker instead of putting spider gears back in. Let's see how long it takes to break a stock 16 spline axle shaft now.
I was gonna go with the ouverson 2" axles and locker kit, but I have a trip planned 2 weeks from now and need to get the truck up and running.
Now that I know the weak link, I will be upgrading the axles in the near future.
I finally had time today to tear into the broken axle on the deuce. Man what a task that was to get the chunk pulled out.
One of the shafts was wedged in the carrier, and I had to pry it loose and use a mallet to get it out. The chunk was really sealed with 20 years of paint and gunk. Once I...
It wouldn't cost that much to install a small atv winch under the bed and have eyelets or pulleys over the rear chunks so in the future I could lift them out easy.
Anyone have good ideas for lifting the chunk off the middle axle with the bed still on the truck?
I was thinking about taking the middle axle tires off and letting the truck sit on the rears only. This would drop the middle axle low, so there will be more room to maneuver. Now as far as lifting...
Read above post. Pass axle is locked in stuck. I can spin it by hand and it hits a hard spot and stops. Both shafts flop around like they are loose in the carrier. This is telling me that most likely the spider gears have broken apart. When I drain the diff I will be surprised if I don't have...
Pulled driverside shaft and it looked fine. When I slid it back in, I noticed it was not catching anything. I am able to spin the shaft by hand with it all the way against the hub with the flange bolts not in. I'm suspecting spider gears at this point. Gonna try to pull the chunk this weekend...
395 xzl michelins on mrap rims. The tires rub for sure on the bed, but not enough to break the rear end. I have yet to lose any tread from tire rub. I push my trucks to their full potential and with that comes broken parts. I'll get her fixed and on to the next adventure.
What tire rub. Haha
I'm 300 miles from home working. I don't have the luxury of tinkering in the garage after work, because I'm gone for a week at a time. I come home on the weekend and want to spend 2 precious days with my family and my 9 month old son, because I don't see them all week. Hopefully soon I'll be...
She's broke for sure. I have just been so busy with work I haven't had time to take it apart yet. Stay tuned for updates, I'm really curious what broke.
P.s. I confirmed it by putting the truck in a deep rut in rear wheel drive only and the rear axle has power and spins the rear tires and the...
Well I told ya so doesnt work for me. I heard that the 2.5 ton rockwells are weak when running bigger tires, but this is crazy. I was at a jeep run "tierra del sol", and while crawling the notches (a gathering place for idiots) i managed to break either spider gears or a axle shaft on the middle...
