It is kind of odd to have this feature on a di diesel. Most piston with the bathtub design are used in idi engines where lower pop pressures and higher crs are needed to make everything go bang. another thing to look at is the dynamic compression ratio. Even if both motors are the same and cam timing or lobes are slightly different this can change the actual compression quite a bit.
