Well, I have since figured out the best way to get this started without burning up glow plugs or over revving the engine. I just barely push the throttle and turn the key on until wait light goes out and turn it over for 2-3 seconds and if it don't fire up I LEAVE THE KEY ON and wait a couple...
That brings up another forgotten fact. The wire that goes to that on mine looks as if it had gotten really hot/short circuited. It had some bare copper showing but I routed it in a way to be impossible to touch ground. I only saw one prong on the srnsor though.
It was 14.5°F here this morning at sunrise. I went out to test the GPs and it started the same as when it was 35°F. Only thing is, as I was about to walk away from it, she stalled. Then I restarted it the same way (that I have recently been taught), and it started fine but needed a little...
Well, great news. Put glow plugs and injectors in and new 1/4" blade plugs on. Hooked everything back to stock on the relay, plugged the module card in and turned the key to on, waited for the wait light to go out and then hit the starter and she fired right up! About ten seconds passed with the...
Yes sir. °F It gets pretty cold on rare occasion here (especially the past two years) and sure enough I will need it when it is the coldest day of the year.
Well, mine is my only truck and I will learn what I must and prep her as I must, but she must start at -20 if need be. Prefer no ether and no block heater. The 5 ton I drove in Germany in mid 80s started every time I asked it to with no ether and of course no block heater.
I have stanadyne all...
That makes a lot of sense there! I am new to diesels so I still am stuck in gasser mode. The carb gassers I have I just pump a couple times when cold and bump the key and if not started in a week or so I pump the heck out of it first. EFI I just bump no matter. My 5 ton has started on bumps all...
Must be nice. Here's what my stuck ones looked like.
I removed the injectors and got one out broken GP out with hemostats and two with a strong magnet. Then I used a vacuum with a small tip to draw out any pieces of ceramic or metal. Gotta wait on a trip to parts store to get anti-seize before...
Looked them up and Summit sells them for $8/ea. Too late for me this go 'round as I already ordered the 60Gs. Good info though. Was any of them swollen?
Well, after much reading and a good bit of frustration trying to get stuck glow plugs out, I have decided it's time to convert glow plugs to 12v and I ordered some Delco 60Gs. It sounds like they have the least chance of swelling and at 12v I think that should extend their life. Gonna hook up a...
Also, I think that setup that paper in my glove box spoke of has been disconnected/removed. I noticed a wire tapped into the wide open throttle/transmission downshift switch by the gas pedal and it has a blade plug plugged into nothing and going nowhere. Looks like I will be able to work on the...
Thank you Warthog. After thinking for quite a while on this, I think I will keep it stock and just use wellman 070s. Apparently the 24v I am seeing at the glow plugs is correct. However, shouldn't I have seen it drop to(ward) 12v? Also, the wait light is going off real quick now with the Delco...
