M105 axle assembly to accommodate dish-out combat wheels

... Deuce hub on a Deuce axle... (I only wrote that in response to Greg's question.) Give me a bit more time to completely pull apart a M105 (A2) axle and then come up with full drawings/dimensions. I agree: whatever the solution was, this is not just swapping parts. .

M105 axle assembly to accommodate dish-out combat wheels

Not the same... the only thing both hubs have in common is the diameter of the bore for the bearing cups. The outer spindle diameter is 61,91mm for the M35, vs. 66.68mm on the M105. And the dimension "T" is 1/8" more for the 39590/39520 bearing, compared to the 392/3920. That means we could use...

M105 axle assembly to accommodate dish-out combat wheels

You mean on the A2 axle... Good question; exactly what I want to do. (I have plenty of Deuce parts laying around - plus a few NOS M149 axles; just the axles with naked spindles, no hubs, no brakes.) Bearings shouldn't be a problem, but I'm sure I'll need a custom sleeve in order to use the M35...

M105 axle assembly to accommodate dish-out combat wheels

They all have that... The point here is that the A2 hubs are "shorter" so to speak, and the A2 drums protrude further outwards, so your Isuzu wheel doesn't fit there... But the same 16" wheel may work on the early (A1 ??) - style hub & drum. That is, if the wheel backspace is 8" or less...

M105 axle assembly to accommodate dish-out combat wheels

Then the TM is not correct...(?) Because according to the book, the A1 has the same hub & drum assembly as the M35. But what can be seen in your picture is the hub of the A2 model.:?

M105 axle assembly to accommodate dish-out combat wheels

Yes, in fact. It's actually the M105-A1 vs. M105-A2 brakes. (not what I first wrote in post #19, which I have just edited) TM 9-2330-213-14&P / OCT-1990 shows the differences quite clearly...

M105 axle assembly to accommodate dish-out combat wheels

New, corrected info: the wheels on my trailer actually are 16" x 5.5" lockring-TT and have a backspace of 7.8". Clearance between the inner rim and the (Deuce) brake drum is about ½". And the total width measured between outer tire sidewalls is 97-½". Again, these wheels/tires are mounted on...

M105 axle assembly to accommodate dish-out combat wheels

FWIW, this... is the wheel you want (not at that price, of course...!), if/when you choose to go for dual configuration. I have an old equipment trailer here (farm-use only; made out of a Deuce frame with stock rear suspension & axles) which has eight of those wheels, running on 7.00R16 "Ë"...
  9. gringeltaube

M105 axle assembly to accommodate dish-out combat wheels

No, that would be almost 93". Because on a Deuce axle, the difference is only 9.75", hub flanges out vs. hub flanges in.
  10. gringeltaube

M105 axle assembly to accommodate dish-out combat wheels

Yes, that can be done... Just keep in mind that your lug nut holes are chamfered on the outside, only - so there's some more work involved. The original M105 flange-to-flange distance of 79" would then be reduced to 68". But, with 14.5s on A3 wheels - dished out, the resulting overall width...
