What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

How far forward in the passenger tub did you put the dampening - to the base of the firewall panel, or all the way up (taking the dash off to do so)? I figure I've got to redo all the wiring behind the dash, might as well put the insulation in at the same time if it'll do any good...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

TechnoWeenie, I'm interested in hearing how well (eg. related to a 'normal' modern vehicle, maybe) it dampens sound. I've heard/found that most of the road noise actually comes from the rear...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

TechnoWeenie, nicely done! Did you stretch the carpet, or did you have pre-shaped/stretched pieces to install? I really need to get some sound dampening into mine, but I'm not sure what I'm going to for carpet yet and I'm hesitant to try stretching myself.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Squirted some grease into the zerks, probably the first time that's been done in 25 years! :P Surprised by how few zerks there were, but it was still enough to take most of the 'small' marine grease tubes. Changed out the oil with some Rotella 15W and replaced the filter. She was a bit overdue...

1ton cucv turbo, how in the world does that happen?! Find another shop to rebuild them or something. :|

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

NOT COOL. I need to get more sleep or something. Two days ago, I put a new thermostat in (with the temperature stamp facing the block). I appear to have not cleaned the surfaces well enough, and it leaked. Yesterday, I fixed that. Or so I thought. I put the thermostat in backwards. That became...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

I've had better luck using desulfured rapeseed oil (you know, canola cooking oil) to quiet the engine. Lube = win. Cetane boosters, aka stuff like Diesel 911, help with the power department, but I don't trust them to not break things with normal use - so they're a cold weather only thing...

... what are those hockey pucks? They look like grenades, or field expedient makeup holders... or something.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Yes, I've got cardboard on the grille attached with quick ties. It helps, a little - it'll get 'warm' at 30F at any speed except for idle, but any colder than that and if I'm idling in a parking lot, it ceases to provide "heat" beyond enough to drive out the chill while wearing full outdoor...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Not necessarily recommending this, but when I was living in CA, I got 3 Hella motorcycle horns (of different frequency) and wired 'em up on a 20A fuse. It was louder. :)

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Oh yeah, and found out the previous owner painted the truck with (ARGGG) a paintbrush. This was an unintentional discovery at the car wash, resulting from the flakes that came off...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Let's see, this is a long list. :P * Replaced the air filter with a K&T filter. (I was having thoughts about running without a filter until it came in due to concern about parts breaking off and flying into the engine - it was that bad! I suspect it was the original.) * Swapped the 800 CCA NAPA...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Really? :| That's frustrating - NAPA couldn't source me an aluminum one here, had to resort to mounting something slightly different (also copper) which I got from O'Reilly's. Mine is only 'tolerable' down to about 10F at an idle, but stays warmer at highway speeds. I was told that this might...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

I've just done a couple little things since there's "not a lot to do" (heh heh) to her since she's got it all going on. :P These are all relatively hasty things I've done in the past month and a half to get her 'every day ready': * removed about 300lb of surplus radio equipment from the inside...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Drove 1800 miles cross country to get her home. :) Also, removed some decals and crap so it'd be less of a police attention getter ('military police' makes them edgy, apparently).
