All legal matters aside, the 5-ton trucks are very conservatively rated. I've got a Mack with 44,000lb rear suspension and the 5-ton setup is every bit as big. The frame and brakes are also comparable to most over the road trucks. About the only thing they lack compared to civilian heavy trucks...

I routinely haul 17-18 tons of lime on this truck. That gives me a gross weight of around 60,000lbs. It's slow but it handles the weight fine (it's a M936 chassis).

I do know when you start getting above 60,000lbs gross weight she starts to slow way down on any kind of hill with the NHC 250.
