On mine, I didn't like the routing of the hoses off the bottom of the air actuator "thing" in your picture. so I put 90 degree fittings on and had the hoses go away from the front tire. I also replaced the large hose that goes to the air cleaner side with something more durable. Mine was broken...

I would be afraid of the Slime clogging up the CTIS system. Works good in other stuff though.

Lower tire pressure will drastically help where you want to go. (Expressed in sand) However I think it would be easier and lest costly to just buy an adjustable psi set point air regulator (30$) and 6-7 of the clip on tire chucks (2-3$). Attach it all together EXTERNALLY in a redneck manifold...

It looks like I may have messed up. I used the x rings that I bought from the Mil-surp dealer, not the Mc mastercarr ones. Since reading this I opened the Mc mastercarr ones and they are too large. The label on the bag is unreadable, and I will have to take my hubs apart to find out the size...

Mine had an intermittent short in the fuel cut off switch, some times it would start, and sometimes it wouldn't. But it would run on ether. I found the problem by accident, by wiggling the wires behind the switch when it was running, and it stopped. Replaced the switch and all is well.

That should be a standard item. Mc master carr (no affiliation) is the first place I look for stuff like this.

Yup, no offense. But if TSHTF I would be more worried about the transmission shifting than the CTIS. (we can air up/down tires with the onboard, 2 cylnder, liquid cooled, turbocharged air compresser)2cents

This plug is used to do an electronic diagnosis of the operating systems, Now I think the only thing on the A3 that this "diagnoses" is the transmission, and maybe the CTIS? ( I have read that the cat 3116 engine is fully mechanical) YRMV. The TM calls it a (STE/ICE-R) simplified test...

One thing I found on my A3, was that the fan belt was torn, it only had 4-5 ribs on it and the tensioner was hopping all over the place. The belt is supposed to be 7 ribs. No big deal I thought, get a new belt. So I did, ( it's 64 and 5/8 inches long 7 rib, ordered at the local auto parts house...

On that EGR tube question, I would look into inboard boat engine exaust tubing. (west marine) for starters.
