Valence, the pic you're looking at is the driver side, up towards the radiator support. I believe it is the wires for the driver side lighting that goes through there. And as you pointed out, the harness under the air cleaner as well got the same protection as my driver side one. All were in...

    Electrical fire

Annnnnnnnnnnnnd since the driver side fender was off, I figured it would make life a little easier doing the zipper boot on that side as well. It was bad, the inner clamp let go some time ago. While I was doing that, my wingman (7yo) started working on painting the freshly sand blasted water can.

    Electrical fire

Got the wiring sorted after some time with a test light and soldering iron. This is what I started with. Once the wires were wrapped with tape, I then wrapped them with a piece of coolant hose (where they would contact the frame) and then put the ribbed plastic tubing over it as well. lol...

And it looks like #10 feeds off of #15 as well, so #10 is hot too it appears.

So is there constant power to the horn, even when the truck is off? I have one wire in this mess that is constant power. I'm assuming it's to the horn since the horn button is the ground.

Reading over the wiring diagram, I'm wondering why the horn circuit breaker didn't do anything to prevent this.....shouldn't it have.....broke the circuit?

    Electrical fire

The beginning of the surgery. Figured it easier in the long run to just remove the fender. It has a hole in it anyways, so what better time to fix that too. We've located the issue, and will be operating soon. The patient is relaxing for the time being. And in the midst of removing the...

    Electrical fire

Since I have a hole in the driver side fender that needs to be fixed, I figured it would simplify things if I just removed it. What a pain in the butt. Broke most of the bolts. Going to replace with stainless ones. Found another harness that was in the process of rubbing through. And got to...

lol. Thanks. I used to have a 64 Impala SS that I restored. Anything with 40 year old wiring will be fun. I wish I had the room and equipment to do a full restoration on the deuce, but it's going to have to be a piece by piece project. Looks like I found my first piece! lol

This is the image from my phone. This is the aftermath. The picture was taken from the driver side wheel well.

Another angle from a pic that I already had on hand.....

    Electrical fire

Flyingvan911, I have until the 24th of this month to sort it out.....that's our first mud bogs and until then my son is banned from riding in the truck. That's gonna break his heart, so this WILL be fixed before then. Anyone have a quick drop on a front harness?

    Electrical fire

Peashooter, got ya covered. In all my wisdom, and with the truck on the hill, I bailed and was trying to tackle one situation at a time and more things just kept popping up. Never grabbed the fire extinguisher. :cookoo: And my ears are still ringing from that horn. lol

    Electrical fire

I have a problem, but I think it "should" be an easy-ish fix. Stopped at a buddies' house to pick up some 50 gallon drums for waste oil. Fire up the truck to leave, turn on my lights, and start backing down his fairly steep driveway. Not quite dark here yet, but getting there. I roll about...
